Christie’s agreed to a $990,000 class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a 2024 data breach that compromised sensitive consumer information.
The settlement benefits individuals whose private information was compromised in the Christie’s data breach in May 2024 and who received a notice of the data breach.
According to plaintiffs in the data breach class action lawsuit, Christie’s failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures that could have prevented the May 2024 data breach.
As a result, hackers allegedly gained access to sensitive consumer information, such as names, dates of birth, addresses, birthplaces, sex, nationality, document numbers, passport numbers, driver’s license numbers and more.
Christie’s is a global auction house that sells fine art, jewelry, watches, wine and other collectibles.
Christie’s has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $990,000 settlement to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Christie’s settlement, class members can receive up to $10,000 for documented monetary losses related to the data breach. This includes unreimbursed fraudulent charges, bank fees and credit monitoring costs. Class members must provide documentation of these losses with their claim form.
Class members can also receive a pro rata cash payment from the settlement. These payments will vary depending on the number of claims filed but are estimated to be around $100. California class members may also receive an additional $100 statutory payment.
The settlement also provides two years of free three-bureau credit monitoring and identity restoration services. These services include at least $1 million in fraud and identity theft insurance.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is May 20, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the Christie’s data breach settlement is scheduled for July 22, 2025.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by June 19, 2025.
