Mazda agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that certain Mazda vehicles are equipped with defective Denso fuel pumps.
The Mazda settlement benefits current and former owners and lessees of certain Mazda vehicles equipped with Denso fuel pumps.
A full list of recalled and additional vehicles appears on the settlement website. Drivers can also check their eligibility using the settlement website’s VIN lookup tool.
According to the original class action lawsuit, certain Mazda vehicles have defective fuel pumps manufactured by Denso. The plaintiffs claim this defect causes a fuel pump failure, resulting in engine failure and stalling while driving.
Denso is an automotive components manufacturer that sells parts to many car manufacturers, including Mazda.
Mazda and Denso haven’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve these allegations.
Under the terms of the Mazda Denso fuel pump settlement, class members can receive several benefits based on their vehicle’s status:
- An extended 15-year new parts warranty or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, for replacement fuel pump kits in Recalled Vehicles.
- Additional Vehicles can receive prospective coverage for their fuel pumps with a 15-year warranty from the date of first use.
- A car loaner and towing program, including a complimentary tow to the nearest Mazda dealer, if vehicles are inoperable or exhibiting dangerous conditions.
Class members can also receive reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses related to the repair or replacement of the fuel pump in their vehicle. Class members must provide proof they were denied coverage by a Mazda dealer before incurring these costs.
The deadline for exclusion and objection was Dec. 16, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the Mazda Denso fuel pump settlement was scheduled for Feb. 28, 2025.
In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by June 2, 2025.
