LeafFilter agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that leaves, twigs, pollen and other buildup can accumulate on its gutter filter system.

The LeafFilter lawsuit settlement benefits customers who appear in LeafFilter’s customer care database with a debris-related final issue code for their service request between Jan. 1, 2016, and June 24, 2022.

LeafFilter offers a gutter system that claims to keep out “all types of debris” with a gap-free filter system that allows water to pass through while trapping pine needles, shingle grit, leaves and more.

According to a class action lawsuit, the LeafFilter system is defective and prevents “substantial amounts of rainwater” from passing through into the gutters. As a result, water can allegedly flow over the top of the gutters and damage homes siding, foundations, landscaping, sidewalks and more.

In addition to causing water buildup, the defect allegedly causes debris to accumulate on top of the gutter filter. Plaintiffs in the case say they had to pay out of pocket for gutter cleaning and even the removal of the LeafFilter system.

LeafFilter hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a class action settlement to resolve these allegations. The total settlement amount hasn’t been disclosed in court documents.

Under the terms of the LeafFilter lawsuit settlement, class members can receive reimbursement for debris removal cleaning in the form of cash payments and/or vouchers. Payment types will vary depending on the type of proof, if any, class members submit with their claim.

Class members who can provide proof they paid to remove debris from their LeafFilter Gutter System multiple times can receive reimbursement for two cleanings at a rate of up to $100 per cleaning, for a maximum payment of up to $200.

Class members who can prove they paid for one LeafFilter Gutter System cleaning can receive reimbursement for the cleaning at a rate of up to $100 per cleaning. These class members can receive two additional vouchers for future LeafFilter Gutter System cleanings.

Class members who certify they experienced debris accumulation in their LeafFilter Gutter System can receive three vouchers for future LeafFilter cleanings.

Class members who can provide proof they paid out of pocket to remove their LeafFilter Gutter System can receive reimbursement of up to $200 for the costs of removal. Class members who seek removal reimbursements must certify they experienced debris accumulation and that this caused them to remove the gutter system.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Nov. 21, 2022.

The final approval hearing for the LeafFilter lawsuit settlement is scheduled for March 14, 2023.

In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 4, 2023.
