The Iowa Board of Regents has agreed to a settlement to resolve claims it did not properly pay the wages of its employees who provided healthcare at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC).
The settlement benefits an Overtime Class made up of all individuals who worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from Jan. 8, 2017, to present, and who were classified as merit, merit-exempt or non-exempt P&S for purposes of overtime pay.
The settlement also benefits a Wages Class made up of those who have worked for UIHC since Aug. 19, 2017, as members of the SEIU bargaining unit (health care professional bargaining\ unit) or Oct. 7, 2017, as a merit, merit-exempt or non-exempt P&S employee, “respectively, who have not received their earned wages until more than 12 days, excluding Sundays and legal holidays, after the end of the period in which the wages were earned.”
The Iowa Board of Regents lawsuit alleged UIHC has a policy and practice of neglecting to pay its health care provider employees’ overtime wages within 12 days of the pay period in which they are earned, and of failing to pay employees all of their earned wages in a timely manner after they were terminated, in violation of the Iowa Wage Payment and Collection Law and Fair Labor Standards Act.
