CenturyLink has agreed to pay $15.5 million to resolve allegations that they deceived consumers with misleading billing practices.

The settlement benefits consumers who had an account with CenturyLink or one of its operating companies for telephone, internet or television services between Jan. 1, 2014 and Jan. 14, 2020.

Plaintiffs in the CenturyLink class action lawsuits claimed that the company deceptively promised certain rates to consumers, only to charge a higher rate during actual billing.

The CenturyLink class action also claimed customers were billed for unauthorized, undisclosed or improper charges for services or equipment that was not actually applicable.

As a result of these charges, the plaintiffs were allegedly charged much higher costs than expected. These expenses reportedly mounted if plaintiffs chose to terminate their accounts in response to the unfair charges. The plaintiffs claim they were charged termination fees and were even improperly sent to collections without any valid reason.

These practices were reportedly a result of CenturyLink tasking their salespeople with “draconian sales quotas and revenue targets” to be met “through any means necessary.” According to the plaintiffs, “CenturyLink’s chosen business model yielded predictable results by encouraging and rewarding deceptive and other unlawful conduct.”

CenturyLink faced several class action lawsuits which were eventually consolidated into a multidistrict litigation (MDL) based in Minnesota federal court.

CenturyLink has not admitted any wrongdoing in the MDL but has agreed to pay $15.5 million to cover Class Member payments, attorneys’ fees, court costs, and plaintiff service awards.

In addition, the company will pay $3 million to cover settlement administration and notice expenses. If costs exceed $3 million, an addition $1 million will be covered equally by CenturyLink and the settlement fund.

Under the settlement, Class Members can collect a flat payment of $30. If Class Members can provide supporting documentation, they can receive up to 40 percent of whatever damage they are claiming.

In order to benefit from the CenturyLink class action settlement, Class Members need to file a valid claim form by June 23, 2020. The deadline for exclusion and objection is also June 23, 2020. The final approval hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27, 2020.

You seriously posted your PERSONAL information here for ANYONE to see? Not good. By the way, YOU have to file the claim. Posting your information here will accomplish NOTHING for you. Please be careful about posting your personal info online.

  2. Ida McClary says:

The notice states that a total of $22.5 million to he paid by Century Link. Customers receive $30-$40 while the remainder goes to attorneys, “administration cost” and sending the info. I think it’s the attorneys that are scamming us.

  3. William cole says:

The billing was bad enough..double billed.the contract was supposed to be 1 yr. Nope in microscopic print it was 2yrs. The installers were incompetent. They drilled 4 holes from outside …through the walls inside !!

  4. Mary Ann Miller says:

Unable to complete the form even with the postcard I was sent

  5. Donna Blodgett says:

This is a joke, we’ve had Century Link since 2014. Actually before. It was the only service available in our rural area at the time. First of all 40.00 are you kidding….. that’s just humiliating! They took the money from us easy enough, they can give it back! We’re hard working Americans, I don’t have extra money to just give to some greedy company with bad moral issues!!! Why should it be so hard for us to get what is our?….. 40.00 PSSSSST!!! DISCUSTING!!!

  6. Dawn M. Seward says:

I would like to be part of the settlement what a joke you can’t even get on the page to have any complaints and I was with century link for many years and was overcharged all those years and they think we should sell for $30-$40 I would like to be included in this lawsuit

  7. Marie Domont says:

Can you recommend a lawyer that would take on my individual case against Century Link/ATT. I have been double billed because they never closed my DirecTV account when I bundled the internet with TV Service in July 2019.
I’ve filed complaints with the FCC. All they do is send the complaint on to ATT.
ATT’s reply is to send a generic email asking to call them for discussion. When
I do, it is always the same “not at my desk at this moment, leave message”. My calls are never returned, even though, they claim they do.
This back and forth has gone on for 2 plus months.
I have all documents, emails, etc…
The latest Class Action Settlement of perhaps $40.00 wouldn’t cover even one month of double billing.
Can you suggest something or someone, please?
I’ll be filing a Consumer Complaint with the AZ Attorney General’s Office today.

  8. Bernard Hausman says:

please include me in this lawsuit.

  9. Ashley Kehn says:

I can’t fill it out as it won’t take my account number.

  10. Frank Howard says:

I took my account number right off my latest bill. This form won’t accept it. What a joke.
