Twitter Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it violated users’ privacy rights by disclosing the full names provided by users without warning, by sharing users’ public Tweets and public profile information with third parties without providing adequate disclosure, and by failing to adequately inform Twitter users that their Tweets would be made public by default.
If you were a California resident as of Oct. 27, 2015 and used Twitter on or before Nov. 18, 2009, your rights may be affected by this class action settlement.
The Twitter class action lawsuit was filed by a former Twitter user who signed up for and used the service in September 2009. The plaintiff, known as Jane Doe, asserted causes of action for breach of contract, invasion of privacy, wrongful publication of private facts, intentional misrepresentation, negligent misrepresentation, negligence, misappropriation, and violation of the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, the Online Privacy Protection Act, and the Unfair Competition Law.
Twitter denies the allegations but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation. The Twitter privacy class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Oct. 27, 2015.
Class Members who wish to opt out of or object to the Twitter class action settlement must do so no later than March 11, 2016.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members of the Twitter privacy settlement include all persons who were California residents as of Oct. 27, 2015 and who used Twitter on or before Nov. 18, 2009.
Potential Award
There will be no money available to Class Members under the terms of the proposed Twitter privacy class action settlement.
Under the terms of the proposed class action settlement, Twitter will establish a fund of nearly $2.7 million. After the costs of suit are determined and paid, the remaining money from this fund will be distributed to nonprofit organizations in California that promote the causes of education and policy related to online privacy, security and safety.
The parties have recommended the following organizations as potential recipients of the Twitter privacy settlement money: Berkeley Center for Law and Technology; Samuelson Law, Technology & Public Policy Clinic at Berkeley Law; USC Intellectual Property and Technology Clinic; Santa Clara High Technology Law Institute; American Civil Liberties Union; and the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.

Is the lawyers portion going to charity also??
Hell. No
yet they are using our user violations to push money out of twitter. I wonder if we can sue on our own apart from this lawsuit.
