BSH Home Appliances agreed to pay $2 million to resolve claims that Bosch home appliances were equipped with defective components that caused panel failure.

The settlement benefits individuals who purchased, acquired as part of a home purchase or remodel or received as a gift certain Bosch microwaves or ovens with model numbers HBL5751UC, HBL8751UC, HBLP751UC, HMC80151UC, HMC80251UC or HMC87151UC.

According to the class action lawsuit, Bosch appliances such as ovens and microwaves were equipped with defective variable-frequency drive (VFD) control panels. A flaw in these panels allegedly causes the control panels to fade, dim, become unreadable or fail altogether.

Bosch is a home appliance brand that sells microwaves, ovens, dishwashers and fridges.

BSH Home Appliances hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $2 million settlement to resolve the appliance class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive Tier 1(a), Tier 1(b) or Tier 2 benefits. Tier 1(a) benefits include reimbursement of up to $400 for documented out-of-pocket costs related to a past display failure, while Tier 1(b) benefits provide the same $400 reimbursement for future display failures. Tier 2 benefits include a three-year extended service plan benefit under which Bosch will replace failed VFD control panels.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is April 25, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for June 13, 2024.

Class members have until Sept. 3, 2024, to submit a claim for Tier 1(a) benefits or Feb. 12, 2025, for Tier 1(b) or Tier 2 benefits.

We built a new house in 2015. Purchased all new appliances (mostly Bosch) including the Bosch refrigerator – B22CT80SNS/01. This refrigerator (the compressor) died in December of 2021. Lasted six years.

We then purchased a second refrigerator, another Bosch, Model B36CT80SNS/10. This unit had two/dual compressors in it, one for the refrigator and one for the freezer. One would naturally think there is less “wear and tear” on them as the use is divided between the two compartments so it should last probably twice as long potentially, maybe longer. Nope, wrong, after less than three years in 10/24, the refrigerator compressor failed and stopped cooling the unit. They build these expensive refrigerators, put their name brand on them, a couple features, and inflate the price only to put cheap chinese compressors in their unit: VFA070CY1. I contacted Bosch support to find out what my options were. They were very short and abrupt and told me unfortunately there are no technicians in your area that can work on your refrigerator you have to look at someone local. On top of that every local repair person we called as soon as they heard the name Bosch they said “we don’t work on Bosch” as they don’t/can’t apparently. I reached out to Bosch, as well as the support person on call who six hours later emailed me with one repair company I could use for the refrigerator – the one and only company I do NOT want to use as we’ve had them for other issues previously and they damaged our new home, ended up being a drawn out argument with the salesman to get it repaired. Though I expressed my frustration and disgust with the quality we recieved from their refrigerators I got zero response back, nothing. We spent $7,000+ on refrigerators of theirs in under ten years, they could care less. They got our money with their poorly manufactured unreliable product.

Compare and contrast, my in-laws refrigerator lasted them 17 years in their home they built. A non-Bosch (whirlpool?). We will NEVER buy a Bosch refrigerator again. After reading others reviews and the service they recieved there are equally as bad problems and service with their refrigerators.

Why? Isn’t there a class action suit for lg washers or dryers, I purchased a lg washer in May of 2022 and the agitator broke in February of 2023 and lg would not repair it. I am w/o a washer.

  9. Helen Mary Berdar says:

We had an issue with a Bosch refrigerator control panel which broke within 2 years of having it. Can we be included in this claim? We had to pay $900 to fix it. Thanks!
