woman purchasing SquareTrade protection plan for Amazon purchase

A settlement has been reached that resolves class action allegations that SquareTrade Protection Plans sold on Amazon have “severe coverage limitations.”

SquareTrade Protection Plans are protection plans for various devices. The plans are sold on Amazon as add-on items to a purchase or on their own.

If you purchased a SquareTrade Protection Plan on Amazon between April 20, 2012 and Oct. 8, 2018, you could get a refund of the purchase price and a $10 off coupon from this class action settlement.

Lead plaintiffs accused the makers of SquareTrade Protection Plans of falsely marketing the product. According to the SquareTrade Protection Plan class action lawsuit, customers who purchased the plan on Amazon were not adequately informed of its features.

In particular, customers were not informed of a clause within the terms of service required for purchase of the plans that bound them to arbitration. According to the SquareTrade class action, such clauses violate Iowa state law, as well as federal warranty laws.

The plaintiffs further accused the makers SquareTrade Protection Plans of failing to make these terms easily accessible to those purchasing via Amazon using a mobile device. Access to the term of service details of SquareTrade Protection Plans was difficult, claimed the plaintiffs.

SquareTrade admits no wrongdoing, but has agreed to change how the terms of service are disclosed and modify how claims are processed. In addition, the company has agreed to refund Class Members’ claims that were previously denied and provide coupons worth $10 off SquareTrade products.

Class Members will be automatically opted into the SquareTrade Protection Plan class action settlement.

Class Members who wish to opt out of the class action settlement must do so by May 22, 2019. Class Members who wish to object must do so by June 7, 2019.

I received a letter in the mail that told me I had been added. they have done this to me on 3 separate occasions, will I receive a check on all 3 or just one? I had purchased all 3 before I tried collecting on one for my android, then my iPad went belly up and they would not pay on it either.

I bought a Square Trade Warranty through Target on 12/18/18…it isn’t worth the paper it was printed on…and I’m stuck with a headset with a broken microphone – after I was told that the warranty would cover any problems for 2 years – and they will not help me with the microphone issue…RIP OFF
