What are real estate junk fees?

Real estate brokers may charge additional administrative or transaction-related fees as part of a real estate transaction. These charges can appear under several different names, which may make them difficult for buyers to recognize.

Real estate transaction fees may be listed as:

  • Administrative fees or admin fees
  • Transaction fees or realtor transaction fees
  • Transaction coordinator fees
  • Broker service fees
  • Broker transaction fees
  • Broker administrative commissions
  • Document storage fees

The name of the charge may vary depending on the real estate broker or agent. If you were charged one of these fees or a similar fee when purchasing a home, you may qualify to take legal action as part of the real estate fees lawsuit investigation.

How much do real estate transaction fees cost?

When it comes to these home buying fees, the amount can vary. According to a July 2026 report from the Consumer Policy Center, most reported charges were between $400 and $600, although some junk fees have reportedly cost homebuyers more than $2,000.
