A $13.75 million settlement has been reached in a Michigan Condé Nast subscriber info class action lawsuit, resolving privacy allegations.

Plaintiffs in the Condé Nast class action claimed that Advance Magazine Publishers Inc. wrongfully shared Michigan Condé Nast subscriber info with third parties in violation of Michigan’s Preservation of Personal Privacy Act.

Publications covered in the Michigan Condé Nast subscriber info settlement include: Allure, Architectural Digest, Bon Appétit, Brides, Condé Nast Traveler, Footwear News, Glamour, Golf Digest, Golf World, GQ, Lucky, Self, Teen Vogue, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Vogue, W, Wired, and Women’s Wear Daily.

No wrongdoing has been determined in the settlement, and the parties involved have instead decided to settle the case with a monetary payout for Class Members.

“While Condé Nast believes that its practices were in compliance with Michigan law, Condé Nast chose to settle this case, without admitting liability, to focus time, effort and resources on continuing to provide valued content to its readers, as the organization has since its founding, and not on additional legal fees and the uncertainty of litigation,” the Michigan Condé Nast subscriber info settlement website states.

Class Members include Michigan consumers who had a subscription to a Condé Nast publication between July 20, 2009 and July 30, 2016.

The exact amount that each Class Member will recover will depend on the number of valid claims submitted, but the payout is estimated to be around $75.

Class counsel plans to ask for no more than one third of the settlement fund as attorneys’ fees plus any reimbursement for costs and expenses. The settlement fund will also pay $10,000 to the Class representative for her services as lead plaintiff.

Class Members have until Apr. 14, 2019 to file a valid Claim Form or until Jan. 26, 2019 to exclude themselves from the Michigan Condé Nast subscriber info settlement.
