A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging Red Robin International Inc. failed to redeem gift cards for cash when requested by a customer if the remaining balance on the gift card was less than $10. If you have possessed or currently possess a Red Robin gift card with a balance of less than $10 that was purchased between Nov. 6, 2010 and June 5, 2015, you may be entitled to benefits from the class action settlement.
Under the terms of the gift card class action settlement, Red Robin has agreed to review its policies and hold at least one training session for employees regarding gift card redemption obligations. Red Robin also agrees to verbally instruct new employees that California law requires that a gift card with a balance of less than $10 be redeemed for cash at a customer’s request.
Red Robin denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the gift card class action lawsuit to avoid the risk and expense of trial.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members of the Red Robin gift card settlement include any California consumer who has possessed or currently possesses a Red Robin gift card with a balance of less than $10, which was purchased on or after Nov. 6, 2010 through June 5, 2015.
Potential Award
One free menu item valued up to $9.99. Each Class Member is limited to one claim.
Proof of Purchase
To be eligible for benefits from the Red Robin gift card settlement, you must affirm that the following statements are true and accurate:
- You are currently a California resident or were formerly a California resident for a time period between Nov. 10, 2010 and June 5, 2015;
- You possessed a Red Robin gift card with a balance of less than $10, which was purchased during the Claim Period;
- The date and California Red Robin restaurant at which you requested cash back for your Red Robin gift card that had a balance of less than $10;
- That, in response to your request for cash back, a Red Robin employee said you could not obtain cash back; and
- The date you disposed of your Red Robin gift card with a balance of less than $10 due to the employee’s assertion that you could not get cash back.

Thanks for spreading the word. Claims maxed out. These settlements will be thing of the past with everyone telling everyone.
This claim is ridiculous! I submitted the very day (within minutes of receiving) TCA newsletter came out with this potential claim but supposedly the maximum number of claims had been reached?!?! In addition, this isn’t just a California problem. While recently visiting my daughter in Washington, the waitress told me I couldn’t cash out the nearly $10 left on my RR gift card. She wanted us to order more items from the menu and when I told her no thank you, she never returned to our table. After our party waited patiently for her to return with my change and gift card…(We actually had to track her down)…She first claimed she had already returned the gift card and when I asked about my change, it seems that she cashed out at that moment and not previously. There was definitely something HINKY going on!!! I didn’t get my gift card back and she didn’t get a tip.
