Details: The Philips/Magnavox plasma TV settlement will resolve a consolidated class action lawsuit, entitled In re: Philips/Magnavox Television Litigation, that alleged certain flat screen televisions sold by Philips Electronics North America Corporation suffer from a design defect that causes internal components (called capacitators) to prematurely fail, resulting in the televisions becoming inoperable.

Philips manufactured and sold plasma flat screen televisions under the “Philips” and “Magnavox” brand names at major electronics retailers in the United States until 2008, when it exited the domestic consumer television business in the U.S. Philips denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to end the litigation by creating a class action settlement fund to pay out benefits to Class Members.

Class Members of the Philips plasma TV class action settlement include anyone who purchased new or received as a gift a new Philips or Magnavox plasma television in the U.S. containing one of the following model numbers with a serial number reflecting a manufacturing date between November 1, 2005 through December 31, 2006:

* Whether you previously paid to have your Philips Plasma TV repaired due to a problem with capacitors on the power supply board.

* Whether you already obtained any refund from a Philips-related entity or any retailer for your Philip Plasma TV(s). Anyone that has already obtained any refund from a Philips- related entity or a retailer in connection with the Philips Plasma TV(s) for which the Settlement Class Members seek relief here is excluded from the Settlement Class.

Depending on which class action settlement category you fall under, you can file a claim to receive a settlement voucher worth up to $145 or $160, or a cash payment of $55 or $65 for each new Philips or Magnavox plasma TV you purchased or received if you can provide proof of purchase/receipt. If you do not have proof, you can file a claim to receive a voucher for either 20%, 30% or 50% of the settlement money that corresponds to the category you fall under.

Well bend me over to all the gay a$$ lawyers that got the money. The voucher is ABSOLUTELY USELESS!! You can’t use it at any store as NONE of the store will recognize it. Best Buy told me voucher is worth less then the piece paper it’s printed on.

Recieved my voucher to use for Philips product. Was happy to use it after the huge ordeal of paperwork but am finding that the voucher will not be honored at retailers because they are not sure what it is. Tried at 3 different locations that sold Philips products which is a struggle becuase many local retailers do not carry Philips. Have left multiple messages on the contact number on voucher and no one will return call. Someone made money on this settlement however I don’t believe it to be the consumers impacted by the recalled tvs that we spent money on to get fixed. Very disappointing.

I received my voucher for 60.00 today. I am both amused and disgusted by this pitiful amount. Is this 60 dollar voucher supposed to make up for a defective television for which I paid almost 2000 dollars? Honestly, it is not even worth the time I spent to fill out the paperwork and to find my receipt. I am sure the law firms representing “our interests” in this class action case received the bulk of the settlement. Thanks for nothing

Thanks to the courts and Phillips for the voucher of an amount of $60 I received. Although I can’t use it to aid in purchasing another useless Phillips TV or certain other Phillips or Avent brand products, my wife are very excited to explore all the marvelous possibilities of how we can utilizes this generous gesture. thanks
