A $10.8 million Jackson Hewitt settlement resolves claims the company forced tax preparers into unfair no-poach agreements.

The settlement benefits individuals who worked in a tax preparer position at a company-owned Jackson Hewitt location between Dec. 20, 2014, and July 3, 2024.

According to plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit, Jackson Hewitt forced its tax preparers to sign unlawful no-poach agreements. These agreements allegedly reduced wages and benefits to artificially low levels and eliminated competition between Jackson Hewitt and its co-conspirators, such as Tax Services of America.

Jackson Hewitt and its subsidiary Tax Services of America are tax preparation services.

Jackson Hewitt and Tax Services of America haven’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $10.8 million to resolve the wage and hour class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Jackson Hewitt settlement, class members will automatically receive a proportional share of the net settlement fund based on the hours they worked as a tax preparer during the class period.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 30, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Oct. 11, 2024

No claim form is required to receive Jackson Hewitt settlement payments.
