Top Class Actions viewers are starting to receive checks in the mail from two class action settlements.
California shoppers are getting settlement checks from the Chippewa footwear “made in the U.S.A.” class action and Telenav Class Members are getting payouts from a class action alleging the company sent unwanted text messages regarding their Scout app.
California Chippewa Footwear ‘Made in the USA’ Settlement
So far, several viewers have shared that they received their California Chippewa settlement checks and some of them are as large as $125.
The Chippewa footwear class action lawsuit was filed after consumers discovered that the products were not handcrafted or “Made in the U.S.A.” despite advertisements.
California residents who purchased one or more pairs of Chippewa footwear from March 1, 2011 through June 30, 2017, qualified as Class Members.
Consumers were eligible to receive a $50 voucher or $25 cash for each item bought in this settlement.
According to the class action lawsuit against the maker of Chippewa footwear, Justin Brands Inc., the shoes contained components that were not from the U.S. despite promotions that led consumers to believe they were handcrafted in the country.
The consumers participating in the class action lawsuit say they paid a premium for these shoes only to discover after the fact that the footwear contained foreign materials.
As part of that class action settlement, the company also agreed to the injunctive relief sought by the Class Members, which includes update their marketing and advertising materials, packaging, and product labels to remain in compliance with California law.
The deadline to file a claim for the Chippewa “Made in the U.S.A.” class action settlement passed on Sept. 7, 2018.
The Chippewa Class Members were represented by Gretchen Carpenter of Carpenter Law, and David Parisi and Suzanne Havens Beckman of Parisi & Havens LLP.
The Chippewa Footwear Class Action Lawsuit is Djoric v. Justin Brands Inc., Case No. BC574927, in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles.
Scout App Unwanted Text Settlement
Top Class Actions viewers are also beginning to receive checks from the Telenav Scout App class action settlement, some of which were as high as $850.83!
Class Members for this lawsuit included those who got unauthorized text messages from a Telenav phone number.
According to the class action lawsuit, these unwanted text messages were sent in violation of the TCPA.
Class Members who were targeted as part of this marketing activity got promotional text messages about an app called “Scout” from July 28, 2012 through March 5, 2018, even when some of those consumers asked the company to stop or unsubscribed from the updates.
As part of that class action settlement over TCPA violations, Telenav agreed to pay Class Members who got the first unwanted text message and a separate award to Class Members who tried to opt out of all the messages but still got texts.
At the time of settlement, it was estimated that the Class Members for this Telenav case numbered around 200,000.
Class Members had until Aug. 28, 2018 to file their claim for this settlement.
