- Where: The lawsuits were filed in four federal courts, including Delaware, New Jersey, and both the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas.
Canadian patent portfolio assessment and mining company Patent Armory has accused a total of 26 companies, including Meta and Twitter, of infringing on its telecommunications intellectual property patents.Â
Patent Armory argues the companies are infringing on different combinations of a group of 10 of its patents widely relating to call routing, sound systems, and electromagnetic radiation sensors found in phones, reports Law360.Â
The company has filed lawsuits in four different federal courts since early May, with the majority reportedly filed in the last week and most recently targeting headphone makers Sennheiser and Sonos.Â
Patent Armory initially targeted cell-phone makers Samsung, LG, and OnePlus on May 5, prior to setting its sights on thermal sensor makers Teledyne FLIR and Seek Thermal in the following days, reports Law360.Â
Patent Armory claims companies committed direct infringement with products such as soundbars, mobile devices, others
Patent Armory, after a brief pause in June, reportedly filed claims against headphone and audio companies Bose, Pioneer Electronics, and Bang & Olufsen on July 18, prior to filing a complaint against Boss Audio on July 25.Â
The company has also filed lawsuits against Booking Holdings, Microsoft, Pinterest, Creative Technology, Reddit, Quora, Snap, Devialet, Guangzhou DSPPA Audio Co., NVIDIA, Holoplot, Pinterest, Hisense Co., and Sony, reports Law360.Â
Patent Armory reportedly claims the companies committed direct — and frequently induced — infringement with products such as soundbars, mobile devices, and search functions, among a number of other things.Â
Samsung has since agreed in principle to a settlement to resolve the claims, reports Law350. Patent Armory has reportedly voluntarily dropped a complaint against Pioneer, meanwhile, with no further comment given.Â
In other news involving Meta, the technology company agreed to pay $37.5 million last month to resolve claims it unlawfully tracked the locations of Facebook users in the US after they had turned off location services on their iOS or Android devices.Â
