Intel processor patch laptopThe recently discovered Intel processor design flaw has affected nearly every Windows, Mac or Linux computer made in the last two decades. It has opened up computers’ security systems to hackers and has been the cause of operating system slow downs in countless computers.

Intel Corporation is headquartered in the Silicon Valley in California. It is a technology company that has made its name by making and supplying microprocessors for most of the world’s largest makers of personal computers. It makes processors for Apple, Dell and HP, among others.

One of the company’s founders was the inventor of the microchip, and Intel has been key to the rapid growth and development of the computer industry.

However, because their microprocessors are in millions of devices around the world, the Intel processor design flaw that was recently discovered is a far-reaching and worrisome problem.

This Intel processor design flaw can be described as two separate problems in one. The flaw named “Meltdown” and the flaw titled “Spectre” both allow the “kernel” to be exposed to security vulnerabilities. The kernel is the part of the computer’s operating system that allows all the parts of the computer to speak to one another. These include the operating system, the processor itself, the memory, the keyboard and others.

The kernel helps to keep applications separate and also aids in the interaction between the processor and the operating system. Even though the operating system is involved in this Intel processor design flaw, the root of the issue is with the processor itself.

One of the reasons why this Intel processor design flaw is frightening is that countless computers are now open to attacks from hackers. Because of the issue regarding the kernel’s and the processor’s interaction, security measures can be breached. Important information can be extracted from the memory of other programs by Meltdown and Sepctre exploits, but these cannot be detected by antivirus software or seen in systems logs.

Soon after the Intel processor design flaw was discovered, Intel put out a software patch to fix the problem. Users quickly found that the software patch, intended to fix the problem, created as much as a 30% slow down in the operating system of the computer. Not only did the affected computers slow down significantly, but users also experienced random and repeated reboots and shutdowns of the computer.

A few days after the software patch was released, Intel announced that users should stop applying the software patch because of the great amount of reports of reboots and restarts.

This Intel processor design flaw affects millions of computers, but where it really hits hard is with large corporations that have thousands of computers with Intel processors, all having the same Intel processor design flaw. They may experience down time and costs associated with the Intel processor design flaw.

If you have been affected by the Intel processor design flaw, including applying the software patch, you may be eligible for legal action.
