Sharp LCD TVThe deadline to file a claim for the LCD price-fixing class action lawsuit settlement is quickly approaching. If you purchased a TV, laptop or computer monitor containing an LCD flat-panel screen between 1999 and 2006, you have until December 6, 2012 to file a claim to receive $25, $100, $200 or more from the LCD price-fixing settlement. Here’s what you need to know.

LCD Class Action Lawsuit Settlement

The LCD settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, titled In re: TFT-LCD (Flat Panel) Antitrust Litigation, accusing 10 LCD manufacturers of entering a price-fixing scheme to fix, maintain and raise the prices of LCD panels. The companies involved in the case are: Toshiba, LG, AU Optronics, Samsung, Sharp, Hitachi, Epson, Chimei, Chunghwa and HannStar.

Class Members of the LCD price-fixing class action lawsuit settlement include consumers who purchased a TV, laptop or computer monitor containing and LCD flat-panel screen from a company other than the manufacturer of that panel (i.e., Best Buy, Amazon.com, etc.). Only consumers in the following 24 states are allowed to file a claim: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Class Members have until December 6, 2012 to file a Claim Form to receive a partial cash refund from the LCD class action settlement. No receipts or other documents are required to file a claim.

UPDATE 4/23/14: Distribution of funds from the LCD class action settlement has been delayed by appeals. The Settlement Administrator is estimating that the appeals will not be resolved until 2015 to 2018. Read more.

UPDATE 7/24/14: All appeals have been resolved and payments could go out at early as September or October 2014. More info.

UPDATE 10/23/14: A federal judge reportedly gave authorization to distribute the LCD class action settlement funds at a hearing on Oct. 17. 2014, and the checks are likely to be distributed the last week in October. Read more.
