Unum Disability LawsuitUnum Life Insurance Company of America is facing a new lawsuit, for an alleged wrongful claim denial against a Florida woman.

According to the Unum lawsuit, the woman’s claim for disability insurance had been wrongfully denied allegedly by the insurance company despite meeting all requirements.

Up until Feb. 14, 2005, plaintiff Anna R. had been employed as a lead preschool teacher with Citizens for Citizen Inc., when she became disabled and unable to fulfill the requirements for the school. At this point, Unum approved her claim for disability insurance after meeting the provisions set by the policy.

According to the Unum lawsuit, she was unable to complete her occupational duties and had lost at least 80 percent of her income.

Initially Anna was approved for long term disability insurance, with her Unum lawsuit pointing out that the company had recognized her as fully disabled and agreed to pay her for 36 months. However, this changed on March 8, 2013, when Unum declared she was no longer eligible for long term disability insurance.

Anna appealed this decision on Aug. 29, 2013, following all administrative procedures and providing necessary medical testimony. On June 26, 2014, Unum issued their response confirming denial for long term disability insurance.

According to her Unum lawsuit, Anna was not deterred and filed a second appeal on Dec. 18, 2014 only for the insurance company to uphold its denial of her claim for disability insurance in May 27, 2015.

Overview of Unum Claim Denial Allegations

According to Anna’s Unum lawsuit, the insurance company did not provide any sufficient information for the reason for their denial.

In addition, the company did not specify the reasons why her medical conditions no longer qualified her to receive coverage despite the fact that it has greatly impaired her. Anna has been unable to work in any similar occupation, and has not been able to earn a sufficient income, according to her disability lawyer.

Anna is filing her Unum lawsuit against the company, for wrongfully deny her long term disability insurance.
