E-cigarette heart risk

The e-cigarette heart risk has been covered in the news media for some time, but more academic and medical studies are raising the alarm about the possible devastating risks for users of these popular pods.

The use of e-cigarettes has been rising throughout the U.S. despite concerns over medical issues like seizures, lung disease, and heart problems. Although these side effects and conditions have been well-publicized as stories about them emerged, a new study shows that nearly one in 20 people report using these devices.

Many of those users have been younger teens, who are at risk of even bigger problems with development and addiction due to their age. The most recent research involved more than 930,000 adults in the U.S. and found that applied to the population as a whole, nearly 10.8 people are e cigarette users around the nation.

Studies Continue to Elaborate on the Risks of E-Cigarette Use

Two new studies found that e-cigarette use is nearly as detrimental as traditional smoking when it comes to the kinds of oxidative stress that can cause heart disease and blood vessel damage. These serious e-cigarette heart risk problems mean that a user who assumes vaping is safer could unknowingly be exposing themselves to more medical problems.

The steep increase in users of e-cigarettes is also a problem for the potential heart risks, especially given that the results were drawn from a telephone-based survey designed to be representative of the population all over the U.S. If use of these pods and devices continues to grow as it’s expected to, more users could find themselves suffering from heart issues.

This isn’t the first time that heart dangers have popped up as a side effect of using e-cigarettes. A presentation in 2019 at the American College of Cardiology meeting showed that e-cigarette smokers have a higher risk of having a heart attack and experiencing emotional distress.

E-cigarette heart riskWhat Are Other Dangers of E-Cigarette Use?

Some people who have taken up a vaping habit have done so under the misinformed assumption that it’s safer for them. The challenge is that plenty of emerging research shows not just e-cigarette heart risk issues, but problems with other side effects like lung disease. Users of all ages could suffer from these conditions, but teenagers could become addicted at a younger age and increase their use profile over time, putting them at risk for more severe problems.

The main problem as illustrated thus far in the research is that e-cigarette usage can compromise the patient’s arteries by preventing them from dilating.

Although the independent risk of having a heart attack is outlined above, the possibility of life-threatening side effects extends beyond heart damage or heart attacks. Smoking in any form causes health damage to the user and those around that person. In fact, smoking and secondhand smoke cause one-third of heart disease deaths.

As a result of the issues with traditional cigarettes, some turn to e-cigarettes as an alternative they believe to be safer. However, e-cigarettes might not break a nicotine habit because these devices are still extremely addictive. Beyond the e-cigarette heart risk, there are all the long-term risks of getting hooked on the high levels of nicotine in vape products and really struggling to curb that habit in the future.

If you or someone you know used e-cigarettes but later had to be hospitalized as a result of vaping, consider discussing your lung or heart impacts with a trusted lawyer. You might have grounds for a case; Top Class Actions can connect you with a qualified attorney.
