Roundup cancer lawsuit updates — March 2026
The Roundup litigation has evolved significantly over the past decade, with thousands of lawsuits filed across federal and state courts.
March 2026: Bayer AG proposed a $7.25 billion nationwide class settlement aimed at resolving current and future claims involving Roundup. If approved, this Roundup lawsuit settlement may resolve thousands of cases.
February 2026: Monsanto reported settling nearly 100,000 claims related to Roundup cancer lawsuits.
September 2025: The federal Roundup MDL grew to include more than 4,000 active claims, with an estimated 61,000 additional lawsuits filed in state courts.
January 2024: A Philadelphia jury awarded $2.25 billion to plaintiff John McKivison, finding his non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma was caused by Roundup exposure. The trial judge later reduced the verdict to $404 million.
July 2021: Bayer announced plans to end U.S. residential sales of glyphosate-based herbicides by 2023, though the product continued to be sold for agricultural use.
May 2019: A California jury awarded more than $2 billion to a couple who both developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after years of Roundup use. The award was later reduced to $86.7 million.
March 2019: In the first federal bellwether trial, plaintiff Edwin Hardeman was awarded $78.3 million after a jury found Roundup caused his cancer. The verdict was later reduced to $25 million on appeal.
August 2018: The first major Roundup cancer lawsuit to go to trial resulted in a $289 million jury verdict for a California groundskeeper who developed terminal non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The award was later reduced to $78 million on appeal.
October 2016: The Roundup Products Liability Multidistrict Litigation (MDL No. 2741) was formally established in federal court to consolidate similar lawsuits.
March 2015: The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans.”
