  • Why: The recall was initiated over concerns the Toyota vehicles contain load carrying capacity modification labels that donโ€™t accurately reflect the total weight of all installed accessories.ย
  • Where: The recall affects certain Toyota vehicle owners nationwide.ย

A Toyota distributor issued a recall for more than 33,000 model year 2023-2025 Toyota vehicles over concerns they have load carrying capacity modification labels that may display inaccurate added weight values.ย

Gulf States Toyota says the load carrying capacity modification labels on the recalled vehicles may be higher or lower than the actual total weight of all accessories installed.ย

โ€œIn the worst case, a driver may unknowingly overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of crash,โ€ the Toyota recall says.ย

Gulf States Toyota attributed the issue to programming errors which caused it to install load carrying capacity labels that did not accurately reflect the total weight of installed accessories.ย

Toyota distributor to mail updated load capacity labels to affected vehicle owners

Gulf States Toyota said it is remedying the issue by mailing new load capacity labels to affected vehicle owners, free of charge.ย

The distributor expects to mail owner notification letters by Sept. 16, 2024, according to the Toyota recall.ย

Individuals with more questions about the recall can contact Gulf States Toyota by telephone at 1-800-444-1074 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline by phone at 1-888-327-4236.ย

Toyota itself issued a separate recall last month for more than 145,000 Grand Highlander and Lexus TX550 vehicles over concerns their airbags may not work as intended during a crash.ย

How difficult is it to create a search tool to determine if your vehicle is affected? The search tool could be based on VINโ€“or in this case, based on dealership. How am I to know if my car was distributed by Gulf States Toyota? I live in a gulf state, and it upsets me that I have to await correspondence that may not even come. Who needs that anxiety? Come on, Toyota; you can do better than this.
