Tesla recently issued recalls affecting some of its Tesla Cybertruck, Model X, Model S, Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.

It initiated the recalls over concerns involving the vehicles’ hood latches, cosmetic trim pieces and rearview camera images.

A federal judge in California also recently set a pretrial date of Aug. 29, 2025, for litigation of claims Tesla fostered a hostile work environment toward Black workers at its plant in Fremont, California.

Tesla issues fifth Cybertruck recall since vehicle made public last year

Tesla issued a recall for more than 27,000 of its model year 2024 Tesla Cybertruck vehicles this month over concerns its rearview camera could fail to display an image within two seconds of the vehicle being put in reverse.

The recall was the fifth to apply to the Tesla Cybertruck since the vehicle was made available to the public last year.

Tesla says it is concerned a delay in the availability of the rearview camera image could affect the rearview of drivers, increasing the risk of an accident.

“A delayed rearview image reduces the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash,” the Tesla Cybertruck recall states.

The recall involves certain model year 2024 Tesla Cybertruck vehicles produced between Nov. 23, 2023, and Sept. 14, 2024.

9,000+ Tesla Model X vehicles recalled over concerns trim pieces could fall off

Tesla issued a recall for 9,136 of its model year 2016 Model X vehicles in August over concerns cosmetic trim pieces could come off the vehicle, creating a crash hazard

The automaker says the recalled Model X vehicles’ front and center roof cosmetic pieces may have been stuck to the vehicles without primer, causing one or both of the pieces to potentially separate from the vehicle.

“Trim that separates from the vehicle during use can create a road hazard and increase the risk of a crash,” the Tesla Model X recall says.

The recall involves certain model year 2016 Tesla Model X vehicles produced between Sept. 17, 2015, and July 31, 2016.

Tesla recalls more than 1.8M vehicles over potential hood latch defect

Tesla issued a recall for more than 1.8 million of its vehicles in July over concerns their hoods could open without drivers receiving a notification.

The automaker says the latch assembly on the recalled vehicles may not detect the hood is open after a driver action opens it.

“Unknowingly driving a vehicle with an unlatched hood may result in the hood fully opening and obstructing the driver’s view, increasing the risk of a collision,” the Tesla vehicle recall says.

The recall involves 1,850,363 model year 2013-2024 Tesla Model S, model year 2016-2024 Tesla Model X, model year 2017-2024 Tesla Model 3 and model year 2020-2024 Tesla Model Y vehicles.

Tesla racial discrimination complaint given tentative pretrial date

In other Tesla-related news, a federal judge in California ruled in August that a class of nearly 6,000 Black former Tesla workers will be able to examine issues with their racial discrimination complaint against the automaker.

The former employees, who worked at Tesla’s plant in Fremont, California, argue in a 2017 complaint that the automaker fostered a work environment at the plant that was intimidating, hostile and offensive towards its Black employees.

The judge gave a tentative pretrial date of Aug. 29, 2025, for the claims, while also noting the case would not be postponed beyond the end of 2025.

The class certification and litigation will determine whether injunctive relief is necessary against Tesla at its Fremont plant, while individual cases will later find if Tesla has to pay damages.
