The White House AI competition was announced at the Black Hat USA Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The nation’s largest hacking conference has produced many cybersecurity innovations.
“By finding and fixing vulnerabilities in an automated and scalable way, AIxCC fits into this tradition,” the White House security announcement says. “It will demonstrate the potential benefits of AI to help secure software used across the internet and throughout society, from the electric grids that power America to the transportation systems that drive daily life.”
The White House AI competition will lead to millions of dollars in prizes to the winning competitor. DARPA will also have $7 million available for small businesses to ensure that there is broad participation and a level playing field for companies.
Top competitors in White House competition will compete at DEF CON 2024 and DEF CON 2025 for monetary prizes
The AI companies will make their most cutting-edge technology available in the interest of the best cybersecurity solutions.
Qualifying for the competition will happen in Spring 2024 and the top up to 20 teams will be invited to the semifinals at DEF CON 2024, a top cybersecurity conference. The top five scoring teams there will earn monetary prizes in the White House AI competition and advance to the final phase at DEF CON 2025, where the top three competitors will receive additional monetary prizes.
Leading artificial intelligence companies Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Inflection, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI all agreed to abide by safe AI rules as the technology companies convened at the White House in late July.
