pelvic-mesh-slingA new pelvic mesh sling lawsuit says the makers of the device aren’t doing enough to warn patients of dangers.

Plaintiff Saida P. has filed her pelvic mesh sling lawsuit against American Medical Systems Inc. She says that the company is responsible for failing to disclose significant risks and issues surrounding their pelvic mesh sling product.

The plaintiff says that the defendant and maker of the pelvic mesh sling made a conscious decision to avoid performing studies and creating registries that would have captured important patient data about issues with the product that could have prevented issues with future patients.

The pelvic mesh sling lawsuit, in particular, points out issues associated with the use of polypropylene material inside pelvic mesh products. The pelvic mesh sling lawsuit says that the defendants knew or should have known about the dangers of using polypropylene material in pelvic mesh products because of the possible immune system reactions that could result.

Subsequent tissue breakdown, according to the plaintiff, is just one example of issues that can be associated with the pelvic mesh sling.

The pelvic mesh sling lawsuit argues that the welding of the mesh itself creates a toxic substance that contributes to the degradation of the patient’s tissue as well as the mesh, that the use and design of anchors in the products are likely to injure major nerve routes in the pelvic region, and that the mesh can contract or shrink and cause significant issues.

The pelvic mesh sling lawsuit says that the defendants are responsible for suppressing this information and failing to completely disseminate or accurately disseminate and share these details with the medical community.

Pelvic Mesh Problems

Saida says she underwent a surgical procedure in Texas in January 2016, where she received the AMS Monarc Subfascial Hammock Transobturator sling. This pelvic mesh sling product was created for the purpose of treating stress urinary incontinence (SUI).

She alleges in her pelvic mesh sling lawsuit, however, that she experienced severe symptoms including urinary tract infections, pain, and further urinary problems after being implanted with the defendant’s product. Saida says that she had to undergo revision surgery in August 2016 as a result of the number of complications she was experiencing with the pelvic mesh sling.

She, like many plaintiffs in other pelvic mesh lawsuits, says that the pelvic mesh sling has already caused her and will continue to cause her a variety of problems, including discomfort, infections, pain, pressure, and loss of enjoyment of life, and that the defendant is responsible for failing to disclose information about these risks.

A patient who is told that the pelvic mesh sling is recommended assumes that the medical device will assist them, not leave them with the further possibility of serious injury.

However, as a growing number of women who receive a pelvic mesh sling discover, side effects can emerge after the placement of the sling that cause pain and discomfort throughout the day. While every medical device carries some level of risk, patients receiving the pelvic mesh sling say they were not given a warning first.

The Pelvic Mesh Sling Lawsuit is Case No. 4:18-cv-04150, filed in the U.S. District Court, Harris County, Texas.
