Two new lawsuits allege ticket holders were denied entry into the Copa America 2024 final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami-Dade County, Florida, due to the large numbers of individuals unlawfully entering the venue.
Plaintiffs Marta Pintos, Eduardo Martinez, Nicolas Osorio and Jacqueline Martinez filed Copa lawsuits after being denied entry to the July 14 final between Argentina and Colombia despite having valid tickets to attend the event.
In her Copa lawsuit, Jacqueline Martinez says she paid more than $4,000 for four tickets to attend the final. When she arrived at the stadium and presented her valid tickets, she says she was denied entry โdue to a large number of individuals rushing the arena and entering unlawfully, which resulted in overcrowding and safety concerns.โ
Pintos, Eduardo Martinez and Nicolas Osorio make similar allegations in their Copa lawsuit. They also claim they were denied entry to the match on July 14 even though they had valid tickets.
Copa lawsuits say admission issues could have been prevented
The Copa lawsuits name South Florida Stadium LLC d/b/a Hard Rock Stadium and Confederacion Sudamerica De Futbol d/b/a Conmebol as defendants. Conmebol is โone of the oldest and most prestigious soccer confederations in the worldโ and is authorized by FIFA to control football in the South American region, the plaintiffs explain.
Both Copa lawsuits allege the โunlawful entry of large numbers of individuals was a foreseeable consequence of the defendantsโ failure to implement adequate crowd control measures, security protocols and ticket verification processes.โ
Even though the plaintiffs were denied entry to the event they paid to attend, they claimย the defendants did not refund the cost of their tickets.
The Copa lawsuits assert claims for unjust enrichment and negligence. Jacqueline Martinezโs complaint also includes claims for breach of contract and violation of Floridaโs Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
The Chicago White Sox recently agreed to a class action settlement over allegations the team failed to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act by providing accessible season tickets on its website.
