LabCorp class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: Plaintiffs Michael Wiggins and Teri Stevens filed a class action lawsuit against Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings.
- Why: They allege LabCorp unlawfully shares sensitive patient health information with Google, in violation of Pennsylvania law and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
- Where: The LabCorp lawsuit was filed in Pennsylvania federal court.
Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings unlawfully shares sensitive patient health information with Google, according to a LabCorp class action lawsuit filed Feb. 13.
Plaintiffs Michael Wiggins and Teri Stevens allege LabCorp installed three types of Google computer code — Google Analytics, Google Ads and Google Display Ads — on its public website.
The computer code “intercepts an array of individually-identifiable health information from all LabCorp website users and sends this information to Google,” the class action lawsuit claims.
Google is allegedly able to match this information to individual users using “cookies” and analyze their health information on LabCorp’s website.
LabCorp lawsuit says health information is used without patient consent
Together, Google and LabCorp use the individually identifiable health information for various purposes, such as determining how patients use LabCorp’s website and which advertisements they see on the website, the plaintiffs say.
Additionally, the lawsuit alleges LabCorp and Google use this information to sell ads to companies seeking to target advertisements to individuals with certain characteristics.
This commercial use of this information violates Pennsylvania law and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), according to the LabCorp class action.
These laws ban health care providers from sharing individually identifiable health information with third parties unless such information sharing is necessary for a patient’s treatment or payment, or if a patient has expressly authorized the sharing of the data, the plaintiffs explain.
In recognition of the HIPAA requirements, Google reportedly warns all HIPAA-covered entities that its Google data-collection tools may violate HIPAA and lists steps that entities may take to ensure their Google Analytics use complies with the law.
However, Google and LabCorp allegedly failed to inform website users that their individually identifiable health information would be used for commercial purposes, the class action says.
“Instead, LabCorp’s public-facing policy statements repeatedly promised that it was a safe, secure place to communicate health information, that it treated patients’ individually-identifiable health information as private and confidential, and that it would not share this information, or allow it to be used for commercial purposes, without notice and consent,” the class action lawsuit says.
The plaintiffs filed the LabCorp lawsuit on behalf of themselves and a proposed class of other patients whose protected health information was disclosed to Google without their authorization or consent through the Google data collection tools on LabCorp’s website before March 8, 2023.
LabCorp previously reached an $11 million settlement over allegations it violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act by printing debit and credit card transaction receipts that displayed the payment cards’ expiration dates.

101 thoughts onLabCorp class action claims company shares patient health info with Google
Why is my comment missing? I tell you it showed up before & now it doesn’t! My Dr.& his son a Dr. also, since 2014 used LabCorp for my bloodwork several times. Please add me to this class action – I have both Google App on this cellphone & my Gmail email is in my Gmail App. What I don’t like is that for my 10/13/3025 LabCorp bloodwork that my Dr. drew & sent to LabCorp, some of his staff have my Gmail email& this cellphone # , that I first only received a USPS’d paper LabCorp bill that gave their LqbCorp phone #, gave their LabCorp Internet address website: if I wanted to pay online- but I delayed & suddenly later in 2025 I am receiving a LabCorp text message on this my cellphone to click on the link LabCorp provided in the text to pay the bill for my bloodwork. I’m sorry I didn’t trust it & I’m sorry I deleted the LabCorp text message that asked my to click on the link they LabCorp provided In that text to me. That means they: LabCorp expected me to go online to pay. I deleted that text with LqbCorp link to click on. I wrote to my Drs. to please not bill me in texts w/links but it was actually LabCorp doing this, not my Drs. . I have Google App, a Gmail email in the Gmail app , both on this cellphone that LabCorp texted me on. I’m sorry I DIDNT SAVE THE TEXT PROOF BUT WHO KNEW THEN THAT TCA WOULD HAVE a LabCorp/Google class action ! Finally I called the LabCorp # provided on their USPS ‘d paper bill to me for 10/13/2025 LabCorp bloodwork & told them I’m also NOT using the LabCorp online address they LabCorp provided me in their USPS ‘d paper bill & I’m nit tried g the link in the text message & I paid a live female LabCorp phone representative w/my debit card on their LabCorp phone w/ live LabCorp phone rep.- ( it was a $10.00 LanCorp bloodwork copay) & she gave me the approved payment information confirmation # in that phone conversation. Please I think I gave you enough to add me to the Class Action. Please add me to the LabCorp/ Google class action .
Let me add that some of my Dr.’s office staff have my Gmail email. So the last time 10/13/2025 of the several times my Dr.& his son ( also a Dr.) drew my bloodwork & sent it to LabCorp, I wasn’t only sent a USPS‘d paper bill for the copay for LabCorp bloodwork, I later received a text to this my cellphone from LabCorp asking me to click on the link they LabCorp provided in the text to me on this cellphone for the copay on their bloodwork bill. Their USPS’d paper bill also said you could pay online . Because I received the Labcorp Text message with the link LabCorp said to click on , i@‘ assuming they LabCorp somehow got my Gmail info & Google info. I have both Google app on this same cellphone & my Gmail email app on this cellphone. I believe LabCorp did sneak into my internet information. Unfortunately I was angry & worried & I deleted the LabCorp email with the link in it that LabCorp wanted me to click on.
I wrote to my Drs. to NOT BILL ME through text messages. I paid the 10/13/2025 LabCorp bloodwork copay over the phone using the LabCorp phone # provided in the USPS ‘d paper bill & told LabCorp phone person I do not pay over the Internet. I’ve been in so many security breaches that I’m sick over it & I wonder where it started, but I feel I gave you TCA enough information on this LabCorp incident , that you can please add me to the Class action . Thanks.
Please add me. In addition to what I previously wrote you that my Dr. has used LabCorp For me several times since 2014, last time 10/13/2025, I now remember additional information – the copay bills for LabCorp always came in the USPS mail. But the LAST TIME 10/13/2025 Dr.drew my blood & sent to LabCorp, I was shocked that I wasn’t only sent a USPS mailed LabCorp bill , I RECEIVED A TEXT MESSAGE FROM LABCORP later 2025 on my cellphone w/a link to click on to pay the bill ( copay cost I guess). I never gave LabCorp my either one of my phone #’s ( cellphone not landline) & my blood was always drawn in the Dr.’s office! I have no idea HOW LabCorp got my cell phone # and texted me as being from LabCorp & clink on the link in their Text message on my cellphone. UNFORTUNATELY I DELETED THE LABCORP TEXT TO ME , wrote to my Dr. NOT TO BILL ME IN TEXT MESSAGES ( my Dr. & his son also a Dr.) don’t work for LabCorp. I didn’t go online w/LabCorp, I called them on their phone# on the USPS ‘d LabCorp paper bill & paid LabCorp over the phone for 10/13/2025 copay for blood work w/ my debit card. Please include me in class action as I have BOTH GOOGLE APP & my GMAIL EMAIL IS A GMAIL MAIL APP. I have no idea how LabCoro for my cellphone # to text me . Please include me this whole thing is very fishy ( phishy) . I never paid LabCorp online . In 2013 I USPS mailed LabCorp a check for blood work copay . In 2021 I’m not sure If I USPS mailed LabCorp. Check for the copay for the blood work or if I paid them over the phone . I never went online / LabCorp, more than likely my Dr. did. Please include me in Class Action because it’s still suspicious to me as I have both Google & Gmail on my cellphone, even in past cellphones .
I have used Labcor many times over the past several years. Please include me.
My husband and I have both used the Labcor website over the past several years. Please include me
