Ticketmaster data breach class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Chastine Dickey-Johnson and Serena Chapman filed a class action lawsuit against Ticketmaster LLC and Live Nation Entertainment Inc.
  • Why: Dickey-Johnson and Chapman claim Ticketmaster and Live Nation failed to properly safeguard and secure the personally identifiable information of their customers during a May data breach.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Pennsylvania federal court.

Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation failed to properly safeguard and secure the personally identifiable information (PII) of around 560 million of their customers during a data breach last month, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiffs Chastine Dickey-Johnson and Serena Chapman claim consumers entrusted Live Nation and Ticketmaster with their personal information with the mutual understanding the companies would protect it.

“The data breach was a direct result of defendants’ failure to implement adequate and reasonable data protection procedures, including vendor management, necessary to protect consumers’ PII from a foreseeable and preventable risk of unauthorized disclosure,” the Ticketmaster class action says.

Dickey-Johnson and Chapman want to represent a nationwide class and North Carolina and Texas subclasses of consumers whose PII was accessed or acquired by an unauthorized party as a result of the Ticketmaster data breach on or about May 20, 2024.

Ticketmaster data breach puts consumers at risk going forward, class action claims

Dickey-Johnson and Chapman argue the data breach exposed PII, including full names, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers and credit card details, information they argue puts them at risk going forward.

“The plaintiffs and class members are at an increased risk of future harm, including identity theft, fraud, spam, phishing or other impersonation attacks,” the Ticketmaster class action says.

Dickey-Johnson and Chapman claim Ticketmaster and Live Nation are guilty of negligence and negligence per se, breach of implied contract and unjust enrichment.

The plaintiffs demand a jury trial and request declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of actual, nominal, statutory, consequential and punitive damages for themselves and all class members.

Hacking group ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the data breach after reportedly trying to extort Ticketmaster and Live Nation. The group, which published a 1.3 terabyte database of the data on the newly reopened BreachForums website, is asking for $500,000 in exchange for the stolen data.

The Ticketmaster data breach class action lawsuit is Dickey-Johnson, et al. v. Ticketmaster, LLC, et al., Case No. 2:24-cv-02623, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Well here we go another data breach including my Ticketmaster acct. My email stated, “We are writing to notify you of a data security incident that may have involved your personal information. ” So I would like to be added to this lawsuit against Ticketmaster. These companies should be held accountable to the fullest extent.

  2. Jayme Howell says:

I received an email stating that my data had been breached from Ticketmaster and would like to know how to get in on any class action lawsuits regarding this. Enough is enough and these people have to pay for letting my personal information to be sold or put on the dark web.

I just got an email from Ticketmaster that I was involved with a data security incident that occurred between April 2, 2024 and May 18, 2024 that resulted in my personal information (name, basic contact info, and payment card information such as encrypted credit or debit card numbers including their expiration dates. They claim they are diligently investigating this incident with the assistance of outside experts and that “they care about their customers data and accounts” so they recommend I remain vigilant and take steps to protect myself against identity theft and fraud… Their offer for this inconvenience is a free year of credit monitoring… I am P*ssed off about this! How dare they not notify me until 3 months after the incident and then claim they care about their customers data and personal information. 3 MONTHS IS A LIFETIME IN THE DIGITAL STRATOSPHERE. ANYTHING OF MINE THAT WAS ACCESSED AND ANYONE PLANNING ON STEALING MY IDENTITY HAS HAD 3 MONTHS TO DO WHATEVER THEY WANTED! THATS DISGUSTING! TICKETMASTER SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE BREACH IMMEDIATELY FIRST OF ALL, IT SHOULDN’T HAVE BEEN AN ONGOING BREACH FOR NEARLY A MONTH WITHOUT BEING CAUGHT. THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN FOR THIS. How do I speak to a lawyer about joining this lawsuit? I have the email from Ticketmaster YESTERDAY informing me if that is needed to join. Thank you

Was contacted via email yesterday about my information (name, address, dob, credit card information and encrypted details) were stolen during a data breach that just happened in July so apparently the one that happened in June was the first time and they were able to actually do it a second time on less than a month! I’d like to be involved with this suit if possible but include this breach with the first one!

    1. Anastasia Benavides says:

I just received an email yesterday from Ticketmaster saying my personal information (email, name, dob, address, card information) was stolen from a Ticketmaster data breach and is being sold on the dark web. Right after I got that email my credit app and email alerted me that someone was trying to sign in on a device that wasn’t me. I had to go through all my things locking everything down to keep it more protected. They need to be held accountable because this is not okay. How do I become apart of this lawsuit??
