Matchmaking site Senior Dating reportedly suffered a November data breach that exposed the personally identifiable information of more than 765,000 of its users.
The exposed Senior Dating database appeared on the data leak website Have I Been Pwned, according to TechRadar, which reports the data breach stemmed from a compromise involving Google-backed web development platform Firebase.
The Senior Dating data breach reportedly exposed personally identifiable information including email addresses, photos, genders, birthdates, precise geographic locations, links to Facebook accounts, biographies, drinking habits, education levels and occupations, among other things.
The Senior Dating site, designed for individuals aged 40 and above, was shut down in the wake of the data breach, which was acknowledged by the website’s operator this month, according to Have I Been Pwned.
Researchers noted disclosure notices for the data breach from as early as April 4, months prior to the database being uploaded to Have I Been Pwned in November, reports TechRadar.
Senior Dating operator also suffered data breach involving lesbian dating site Ladies.com
The operator of Senior Dating also reportedly suffered a data breach involving its lesbian dating platform Ladies.com, which was reportedly similarly shut down this month in the wake of its data breach incident.
The Ladies.com data breach exposed the personal information of nearly 120,000 of its users and saw researchers noting disclosure notices for the data breach as early as Feb. 25, reports TechRadar.
In other data breach-related news, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Hot Topic and Torrid in November over claims the retail companies failed to properly safeguard and secure the sensitive information of customers and loyalty account members during an October data breach.
The consumer argues Hot Topic and Torrid failed to implement the “adequate and reasonable” cyber-security procedures and protocols needed to protect its customers’ personally identifiable information from a “foreseeable and preventable” attack.
“Defendants maintained, used, and shared the (personally identifiable information) in a reckless manner,” the Hot Topic class action says.
