The Country Inn & Suites Radisson hotel chain has reportedly suffered an alleged data breach that exposed the personal information of thousands of its customers.
The alleged Radisson data breach may have exposed customer names, full addresses, phone numbers, booking dates, emails, room types and rate paid, guest tax ID rewards, program info and Choice/Radisson reward account numbers, reports CyberNews.com.
Ransomware group Everest reportedly has taken responsibility for the alleged data breach, with the threat actors posting on its dark leak blog Oct. 19 that it stole “Thousands and thousands of client’s personal information.”
As of Oct. 21, a ransom clock posted by Everest showed 10 days left for Radisson to “follow the instructions to resolve the issue with us before the timer ends,” at which time the gang said it will publish the allegedly stolen data on its leak site, reports CyberNews.com.
Ransomware group claims to have stolen billing data, credit card info, more
Everest reportedly has not published how much it is seeking in ransom for the allegedly stolen data, which the ransomware gang claims includes billing data, credit card information, messages, internal emails, incidents, full calendar details of past and future bookings.
The gang is believed to have first emerged in July 2021 and has been connected to BlackByte ransomware operations, a ransomware-as-a-service with links to Russia, reports CyberNews.com.
Choice Hotels acquired the entire Radisson hotel group — which includes 10 Radisson hotel brands and around 67,000 total rooms in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean — for approximately $675 million in 2022.
Marriott International agreed to pay a combined $52 million to nearly every U.S. state earlier this month to end a parallel investigation by the Federal Trade Commission and state attorney generals over a data breach that went on between July 2014 and September 2018.
The Marriott data breach affected its Starwood-branded hotel properties and exposed personal information belonging to around 131.5 million of the company’s guests.
