
IHG data breach overview:

Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) responded to customer inquiries after unauthorized activity on its technology system led to ongoing disruptions for the hospitality giant.
IHG manages 17 hotel companies, including luxury, midrange and extended stay, in more than 100 countries around the world. Among its more than 6,000 properties are Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Regent hotels, among others.
The company has so far not disclosed whether any customer data was impacted by the data breach while saying in a brief statement that it is “working to fully restore all systems as soon as possible and to assess the nature, extent and impact of the incident.”
“We will be supporting hotel owners and operators as part of our response to the ongoing service disruption. IHG’s hotels are still able to operate and to take reservations directly,” the company says.
Following IHG data breach, company reassures customers it is ‘working to restore all systems ASAP
IHG also responded to customer inquiries through its Twitter feed, saying it is “working to restore all systems asap” but that its booking channels and other applications have been disrupted by the “unauthorized activity.”
The hotel group told customers to contact it directly to receive assistance with current or future reservations, which it stated it is still able to take at this time despite the disruption.
“IHG has implemented its response plans, is notifying relevant regulatory authorities and is working closely with its technology suppliers. External specialists have also been engaged to investigate the incident,” the company says of the IHG data breach.
A consumer filed a class action lawsuit IHG in 2017 over claims the company allowed the information of its customers to be compromised in a 2016 data breach by allegedly failing to follow basic security standards for the industry.
