doordash data breachDoorDash customers and drivers have filed a class action lawsuit over allegations that the food delivery company did not do enough to protect the personal identifying information of 4.9 million users.

The DoorDash data breach class action lawsuit was filed by Melissa Nelson who says that in May 2019 the company experienced a massive data breach and did not respond appropriately once it occurred.

Nelson says that the company only informed DoorDash users of the data breach in the last week of September 2019, noting that the company waited at least five months to inform affected individuals.

Allegedly, the company’s failure to inform the public in a timely manner prevented the affected individuals from taking action to protect their identity, through actions like canceling credit cards and changing passwords.

The DoorDash class action lawsuit says that DoorDash’s slow response allowed customers’ information to be widely available for illegal purchase and sale online, probably on the “Dark Web.”

Allegedly, as many as 100,000 drivers were also affected in addition to almost 5 million customers. According to the DoorDash data breach class action lawsuit, the drivers had sensitive information exposed, including drivers’ license information.

The DoorDash identity theft class action lawsuit implies that the information breach was more severe than DoorDash expressed. Reportedly, the company speculated that passwords were not among the pieces of information breached, but allegedly urged customers to change all passwords to online accounts including their DoorDash accounts, and to create a password unique to their DoorDash accounts.

Additionally, the DoorDash PII breach class action lawsuit says that DoorDash claims that customers who joined the site after April 5, 2019 were not affected by the data breach, but this has not been confirmed by independent parties.

The DoorDash class action lawsuit states that customers were injured by the data breach because they are forced to spend time and money recovering from the data breach. Data breaches can reportedly result in identity theft, which can take a long term toll on a victim’s financial health and credit.

The DoorDash data breach class action lawsuit also claims that DoorDash misled customers because it made data security a primary selling point to customers.

Allegedly, the company promoted its data security technology and gave customers many disclosures that emphasized privacy and security policies. This reportedly misled customers into thinking that DoorDash was a more secure service than it is, and was done to gain an advantage in the food delivery industry.

It was Christmas 2019. My son came with his entire family. I had not gotten groceries as he was extremely picky. It was the start of a holiday weekend. My phone rang and alerted me to fraudulent charges. I got online and saw tons of charges. My bank account was frozen until after the holidays. My son has yet to forgive me for that Xmas, that I lied and didnt want to spend money on him because I was too cheap. He said his dad was behind it as those 2 never got along.
Worse Xmas ever and it has never been mended 2 almost 3 years later. Our son refuses to come to our house. We love him, you just have to know how he is. Needless to say, no groceries were bought. No Xmas light shows were gone to. No big snow tubing was gone to. All our money was tied up. When the new week came, working with the bank, we found every charge was in Plainfield, Illinois and all charged through Doordash. I called their office, they did not care and rudely let me go. Doordash corporate is in Plainfield, Illinois. I to this day refuse any service provided by them, they ruined my life and made our relationship with our son worse. My 3 digit code was even used. They are the only ones who had access to it.
