Ally Bank failed to prevent hacker from accessing network during data breach, class action says

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Ally Financial and its subsidiary Ally Bank earlier this month over claims the company failed to protect its customers from a data breach it announced in May.

It also claims Ally Bank failed to implement standard levels of security or enact the reasonable security protocols necessary to protect its customers PII.

The consumer argues the data breach compromised Social Security numbers, birthdates and auto account numbers.

Class actions claim Acadian Ambulance bears responsibility for data breach

Consumers filed a trio of class action lawsuits against Acadian Ambulance over claims the ambulance service bears responsibility for a June 2024 data breach that exposed the private information of millions of its current and former patients and staff members.

The class action lawsuits argue the data breach occurred because of Acadian Ambulance’s failure to implement and maintain reasonable data security measures.

The data breach allegedly affected full names, Social Security numbers, birthdates, medical record numbers and medical and treatment information, according to the Acadian Ambulance class actions.

National Public Data failed to protect sensitive data of millions, class actions claim

Consumers filed a trio of class action lawsuits against National Public Data last month over claims the background check company bears responsibility for an April 2024 data breach that led to the theft of millions of individuals’ PII.

The class action lawsuits argue National Public Data failed to protect the sensitive data, including full names, Social Security numbers, birthdates, addresses and family history.

The hackers reportedly sold the stolen information on the dark web, according to the National Public Data class actions.

Cricket Wireless falsely assured customers data would be secure, class action says

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Cricket Wireless in July over claims the prepaid wireless service provider allowed the data of 10 million of its customers to be exposed during a data breach the company discovered in April.

The class action lawsuit argues Cricket Wireless assured customers through its privacy policy that their data would be secure yet chose to upload a significant amount of sensitive data to the third-party cloud platform Snowflake, which hackers exploited.

“Defendant completely and utterly failed to protect its customers’ personal data and/or ensure that its third-party vendors protected customer data consistent with defendant’s privacy notice,” the Cricket Wireless class action says.

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Rite Aid in July over claims the retail drugstore chain bears responsibility for a June data breach that exposed the information of more than 2.2 million of its customers.

The class action lawsuit argues Rite Aid’s alleged negligence enabled the data breach to occur and that the company both failed to anticipate the threat and lacked the sufficient cybersecurity measures necessary to have prevented it.

Information exposed in the data breach included names, addresses, birthdates and the driver’s license numbers of certain Rite Aid customers, according to the Rite Aid class action.

AT&T failed to disclose data breach may impact non-subscribers, class action says

A pair of consumers filed a class action lawsuit against AT&T in late July over claims involving a data breach the telecom company announced that same month.

The class action lawsuit argues the AT&T data breach compromised the personal information of more than just its customers but also non-AT&T subscribers who utilized its networks.

The consumers behind the complaint claim AT&T failed to disclose that non-AT&T subscribers may have been affected by the data breach.

“Plaintiffs now face the possibility that malevolent actors will blackmail them with the information disclosed in this data breach and therefore have sustained emotional distress,” the AT&T class action says.
