Top Class Actions viewers report that they are receiving up to $50 from the Anthem BCBS data breach class action settlement.

The Anthem data breach class action lawsuit alleged that a 2015 hack into the insurer’s system exposed the personal information of approximately 80 million people.

According to comments and posts on the TCA Facebook page, Class Members who submitted timely and valid claims for the Anthem data breach class action settlement and selected the cash award option started receiving checks in the mail.

Under the terms of the Anthem data breach class action settlement, Class Members could claim either two years of credit monitoring services or a cash award, along with up to $10,000 in out-of-pocket costs associated with data taken in the breach.

Out-of-pocket costs included expenses related to credit monitoring, losses, fees, or charges incurred as a result of identity theft, professional fees, costs linked to necessary credit freezes, postage and other fees, and an hourly wage up to 10 hours for time used to deal with breach issues.

Class Members included those who received a notification from Anthem that their personal information was exposed during the 2015 breach.

The health insurer agreed to pay $115 million to end the class action lawsuit claims in June 2017. Anthem, the nation’s second largest health insurer, was accused of failing to properly encrypt consumer data.

According to the Anthem class action lawsuit, federal authorities warned the company that the lax security around its high value data would make it an ideal target for hackers.

Information affected by the 2015 Anthem data breach included both Social Security numbers and dates of birth, “the skeleton key to someone’s credit,” according to the class action lawsuit. In addition, names, addresses, medical records and financial information were also allegedly exposed in the breach.

The plaintiff claimed that she and other victims of the Anthem data breach would face an increased risk of identity theft and fraud because of the health insurer’s failure to properly protect their data.

$15 million of the fund in the Anthem data breach class action settlement was reserved for out-of-pocket expenses. Additionally, the health insurer was required to update its data security systems.

Class Members who need to still make an out-of-pocket claim in the Anthem class action settlement have until Aug. 16, 2019 to do so.

I never received anything from this settlement. No credit monitoring or check. I recieved a notice from them and I filled it out on time years ago. The website says all claims have been paid that’s a complete lie. This is messed up they leak our info and then only have to pay $50 or else its credit monitoring from a another company that got hacked shortly after anthem got hacked. Whoever the lawyers were that handled this case sure screwed us victims. it’s not fair at all. It’s basically a crime. Is there anything that can be done about this?

I never received any correspondences for this lawsuit after submitting a claim. But today 08/06/2020 I receive a letter of denial of claim because I didn’t respond to correspondence that I NEVER RECEIVED. You leak my identity and make me place a freeze on my credit report and then have the gall to deny my claim. This is such BS.
