Consumers whose information was compromised in a 2023 data breach could receive payments from a $2.7 million Great Expressions settlement.
The settlement benefits individuals who received a data breach notification from Great Expressions regarding a February 2023 data security incident.
The settlement also includes two subclasses, differentiating class members based on whether the breach potentially impacted their Social Security numbers.
Plaintiffs in the data breach class action lawsuit claim Great Expressions could have protected their information by implementing reasonable cybersecurity measures. Great Expressions’ failures allegedly allowed hackers to gain access to sensitive consumer information, including Social Security numbers.
Great Expressions is a network of 246 dental care centers around the country.
Great Expressions hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $2.7 million to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Great Expressions settlement, class members can receive different benefits based on whether the breach compromised their Social Security numbers.
Those whose Social Security numbers were potentially accessed can receive reimbursement for $500 in ordinary losses, $5,000 in extraordinary losses and up to two hours of lost time compensated at a rate of $20 per hour.
Those whose Social Security numbers were not potentially accessed can receive limited payments but can claim up to two hours of lost time at a rate of $20 for a maximum payment of $40.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 11, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Dec. 12, 2024.
To receive Great Expressions settlement payments, class members must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 8, 2024.

I was a client since they took over from dental land. Until approximately 5 yrs ago.
Would I be affected? I just received an email that my social security number is on the dark web from experian.
The claim I received was for non- SS number attached. Please let me know if I was affected and if my SS number was effected.
As a GE customer (patient?) I got the notice, and the claim form. We’ve had to cancel multiple credit cards over the past year due to fraud but I have no proof that the Great Expressions breach was the cause. Am I still eligible to send in the claim form without concrete proof?
I was a patient of theirs a few years ago. Am I affected?
