Yaz Lawsuit Filed Over Girl’s Gallbladder Removal

By Kimberly Mirando

Yaz gallbladder diseaseThe parents of a teenage girl who had her gallbladder removed due to Yaz side effects have filed a lawsuit against Bayer for failing to warn consumers about the elevated risk of developing gallbladder disease from taking the birth control pill. Their Yaz lawsuit is seeking damages from Bayer to help cover their daughter’s past and future medical expenses.

Texas residents Ed and Elaine Cavazos filed the Yaz injury lawsuit against Bayer on August 15, 2012, just days before their daughter’s sweet 16 birthday. According to the lawsuit, the minor girl was prescribed Yaz when she was about 14 years old and subsequently developed gallbladder disease. On April 15, 2002, her condition became so severe that she was forced to undergo emergency gallbladder removal surgery. Now that she no longer has a gallbladder, the girl must endure ongoing medical treatments and monitoring for the rest of her life to prevent kidney and liver ailments. Her Yaz injury lawsuit is seeking compensatory and punitive damages to cover these medical expenses, as well as to compensate her for her physical and emotional pain.

Yasmin/Yaz Linked to Numerous Side Effects

The Cavazos’ lawsuit joins thousands of Yaz and Yasmin lawsuits filed against Bayer for failing to warn the public about the controversial birth control pills’ numerous side effects. The Cavazoses say they were not aware of the link between Yaz and gallbladder disease until April 2012, and accuse Bayer of negligence, product liability and misrepresentation.

Thousands of Yaz and Yasmin victims have sued Bayer over undisclosed side effects that put their life in danger, including:

* Blood clots
* Pulmonary embolism (PE)
* Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
* Heart attack
* Stroke
* Gallbladder disease

Dozens of women have even died from these Yaz side effects, leading to numerous Yaz wrongful death lawsuits filed across the country.

Bayer Announces $1.2 billion in Yasmin/Yaz Settlements

A Yaz multidistrict litigation (MDL) was established in Illinois to consolidate thousands of lawsuits involving Yasmin and Yaz and streamline the litigation process. Bayer has already paid out more than $402 million in Yasmin/Yaz lawsuit settlements in the MDL, and recently announced it is prepared to pay an additional $610 million to MDL Plaintiffs. This amount may increase as more Plaintiffs join the Yasmin/Yaz MDL.

Yaz attorneys involved in the MDL say the only cases Bayer is currently settling are those involving Yaz and Yasmin blood clot injuries such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Bayer is not settling gallbladder claims at this time, and it is unclear when and if it will. For now the focus is on Yaz blood clot settlements. That doesn’t mean that victims of Yaz gallbladder disease won’t have their day in court, however.

If you suffered a Yaz or Yasmin injury such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, heart attack, stroke or gallbladder disease, you should consult a Yaz compensation specialist about your case. This specialist will be able to advise you if you have a claim to seek compensation through joining the Yasmin/Yaz MDL or by filing an individual Yaz injury lawsuit or Yaz class action lawsuit.

    There have been several lawsuits filed against the manufacturers of Yaz birth control. Most of these lawsuits are filed individually, and can take years to work their way through the courts. There has not been a class action settlement that we know of. We offer a submission form on our website for you to fill out if you are seeking class action legal help. Attorneys will then review your submission to determine if you have a case. If they feel you qualify, they will contact you directly. You can submit your information here: https://topclassactions.com/start-a-class-action/.

    You can also try Googling “Yaz birth control class action lawsuit”. You may find a law firm you can contact.

    I was wondering if the suit against Yas/Yasmin Beyaz is still going on, I was on this medication and my gallbladder is now only working at 2% with no gallstones to be seen. Please let me know if I may still get in on this Top Class Action Suit.

    Thank you
