An Illinois man recently filed a Xarelto lawsuit, claiming that the blood thinner medication put him in the hospital for gastrointestinal bleeding.

Plaintiff Austin F.’s Xarelto lawsuit was filed against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Bayer Healthcare, and a number of subsidiaries, and alleges that Xarelto caused him substantial injuries.

According to the Xarelto lawsuit, Austin began taking Xarelto in April 2014. On September 19, 2014, he began experiencing severe gastrointestinal bleeding and was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The Xarelto lawsuit alleges that these Xarelto side effects were serious and painful, and have even caused permanent injury.

According to Austin, using Xarelto has directly caused physical and mental pain, hospitalization, diminished enjoyment of life, and medical expenses.

Austin further alleges in his Xarelto lawsuit that Janssen and Bayer were directly responsible for these injuries, as they were responsible for the design, testing, and marketing of the drug.

He claims that the manufacturers either knew or should have known about the severe side effects of Xarelto, and furthermore failed to adequately warn both the public and the medical community about these potential problems.

Xarelto Background

Xarelto (also known as rivaroxaban in its generic form) is a popular treatment for blood clotting. Xarelto has been targeted in a rising number of these Xarelto injury lawsuits across the country.

Xarelto is one of the more popular blood thinner medications currently available on the market. It is prescribed to prevent blood clotting, which can be dangerous or even fatal for patients who suffer from atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), pulmonary embolism (blood clotting in the lungs), or deep vein thrombosis (blood clotting deep inside the body).

Xarelto Side Effects

In general, Xarelto side effects are minor and go away on their own with no particular treatment. However, some of the popular drug’s side effects can reportedly be dangerous or even fatal, such as internal bleeding complications.

Xarelto bleeding can be a major problem for patients who suffer from a serious accident or have to undergo emergency surgery. In normal cases, the body creates blood clots to help stem the bleeding.

However, when the body is no longer able to form clotting due to blood thinners, wounds that would normally be treatable may become fatal.

This is especially problematic because there is currently no significant antidote available for reversing the blood thinning effect of Xarelto.

Xarelto Lawsuit Information

An increasing number of Xarelto lawsuits allege that Janssen Pharmaceuticals either knew or should have known about this Xarelto bleeding risk, but then failed to give adequate warning about such problems.

Xarelto lawsuits also claim that Janssen continued to market their blood thinner as safe and effective, despite knowledge to the contrary.

While filing a Xarelto lawsuit cannot take away the pain of these serious Xarelto side effects, such as Xarelto bleeding, it can help with the financial expenses often incurred by medical bills or lost wages.

If you or someone you love has suffered from serious Xarelto problems like internal bleeding, you may be able to file a Xarelto lawsuit.

The Xarelto Lawsuit is Case No. 2:16-cv-03044 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
