birth control blood clotA new Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit has been filed alleging that the drug caused serious internal bleeding as well as substantial permanent damage.

According to her Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit, Plaintiff Pauline L/ began taking Xarelto in September 2014 at the direction of her doctor and continued until May 2015.

However, on May 20, 2015, Pauline suffered from a life-threatening internal bleed, which caused pain, suffering, and emotional distress on top of her temporary and permanent injuries.

The lawsuit alleges that these injuries were a direct side effect of taking Xarelto.

The Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including negligence, breach of express and implied warranties, fraudulent misrepresentation and concealment, fraud and deceit, and violation of consumer protection laws, among others.

Xarelto Background

Xarelto (rivaroxaban), manufactured and sold by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, is one of the most popular anticoagulants, or blood thinners, currently available. Xarelto is generally prescribed in order to treat blood clots and dangerous conditions related to clotting.

Blood clots can be very dangerous, and in some cases can be fatal. Clotting can cause a number of serious problems, so blood thinners like Xarelto, which are used to treat these problems, have become increasingly common.

However, despite Xarelto’s popularity, a growing number of Xarelto lawsuits like this one are being filed by injured patients across the country. Lawsuits generally allege that Janssen knew about serious, life-threatening side effects linked with Xarelto, and yet failed to adequately warn consumers and the medical community about these risks.

While Xarelto is used to prevent often dangerous blood clots, clots do actually have a life-saving function.

In extreme situations like a serious accident or an emergency surgery, the body forms blood clots in order to slow bleeding. Patients taking blood thinners like Xarelto, however, may be unable to form these life-saving clots in these kinds of situations.

Instead, Xarelto patients can wind up suffering from significant internal bleeding problems, which can be life-threatening.

Plaintiffs involved in recent Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuits suffered a variety of serious side effects. These include:

  • Gastrointestinal bleeding (GI bleeding)
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Uterine bleeding
  • Hemorrhaging
  • Brain hemorrhaging
  • Hermarthrosis (bleeding into joint spaces)
  • Bloody stool
  • Minor bleeding (nosebleeds, heavy menstrual flow)

Unfortunately, these serious Xarelto side effects can lead to permanent injury or even death.

Filing a Xarelto Internal Bleeding Lawsuit

Filing a Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of someone who has suffered from extreme Xarelto side effects, and cannot bring a loved one back to life. However, a Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit can at least help to compensate for the financial expenses often incurred by medical bills and lost wages.

If you or someone you love has experienced severe Xarelto side effects, or even death caused by Xarelto, you may be able to file a Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit.

The Xarelto Internal Bleeding Lawsuit is Case No. 2:16-cv-13717, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
