With More Than 1,000 Lawsuit, Still No NuvaRing Class Action Lawsuit

Women are being alerted across the United States abot the link experts have found between NuvaRing contraceptive and an elevated risk of blood clots. Those who have filed NuvaRing lawsuit injury claims can expect trials to begin soon, according to a federal judge, who recently gave an order to move forward. Despite this, no NuvaRing class action lawsuit has been established.
What is NuvaRing?
NuvaRing, a vaginal ring contraceptive, is designed to be used monthly. It is produced by Organon Pharmaceuticals and Merck, who marketed NuvaRing as having a reduced amount of hormonal dosage. A report released on October 27, 2011, titled Combined Hormonal Contraceptives and the Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Endpoints, indicated a possible increase in the risk of NuvaRing blood clots by up to 56%.
The British Medical Journal published its own study from Denmark on May 10, 2012. It indicated that vaginal rings, like the NuvaRing implant, can carry an elevated blood clot risk of up to 90%, compared to oral contraceptives. Additionally, the New England Journal‘s publication of a similar report indicated a 2.5x to triple risk factor of blood clots for NuvaRing users.
NuvaRing Lawsuit MDL
With so many NuvaRing blood clot lawsuits expected in the future, the NuvaRing lawsuits have been combined into a NuvaRing Multi-District Litigation (also known as an MDL) court in Missouri. Its formal case name is known as In re: NuvaRing Products Liability Litigation, No. 08-md-1964, JPML, Eastern District Missouri. So far, 1000+ victims have filed a NuvaRing lawsuit alleging injuries related to blood clots.
The first trial for this group of NuvaRing blood clot lawsuits will commence in May of 2013, setting the precedent for future NuvaRing lawsuits and settlements for the plaintiffs. The announcement was made on August 23 by U.S. Federal Judge Rodney W. Sippel.
Unlike class action lawsuits suits, MDL court NuvaRing lawsuits are handled individually. The NuvaRing lawsuits are, however, combined in a single court, which share evidence and procedural rules.
