Pradaxa anticoagulant bleeding

Even though years have passed since Boehringer Ingelheim agreed to pay $650 million in Pradaxa bleeding lawsuit settlements, Pradaxa lawsuits continue to be filed.

Patients who suffered unexpected bleeding complications allegedly from the new generation anticoagulant are seeking out their own Pradaxa lawsuit attorney to proceed with legal action.

Here are some steps a patient can take when selecting a Pradaxa lawsuit attorney:

  • Check the Pradaxa lawsuit attorney’s website for experience. Potential claimants can begin their research by checking the attorney’s “results” or “verdicts & settlements” page. These pages usually feature significant cases the attorney has been involved in. Prospective clients can further research the compensation amounts the lawyer has secured in past drug side effect lawsuits.
  • Ask the Pradaxa lawsuit attorney for a consultation. Once the potential claimant has narrowed down their search to a potential match, they should call to schedule a consultation. Many lawyers offer such consultations free of charge. This consultation is not only for the lawyer to confirm if the case can proceed, but it is also for the claimant to see if their attorney is a good match for them both professionally and personally. Prospective clients can ask the lawyer if they have handled cases similar to their own, how many cases they have won, and how their payment structures work.
  • Check to see if the Pradaxa lawsuit attorney has any ethical violations. Prospective clients can contact their state’s attorney discipline organization, which shows whether or not the lawyer has any ethical violations on their records.

Overview of Pradaxa Bleeding Complications

Pradaxa was the first medication to be approved for blood thinning purposes since the release of warfarin in the 1950s, paving the way for successor medications Xarelto and Eliquis. This medication was released in 2010 and is manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim, quickly proving to be a massive financial success for the German pharmaceutical company.

Even though Pradaxa and the other new generation anticoagulants are popularly prescribed to patients with atrial fibrillation, there have been numerous reports of Pradaxa internal bleeding incidents.

Even though Pradaxa and other new generation anticoagulants could be prescribed in a single dose, compared to warfarin that required frequent dose adjustments, there was no readily available bleeding reversal agent. It was not until 2015 that Praxbind, the Pradaxa reversal agent, was approved for emergency use in the case of uncontrollable internal bleeding.

Even though this reversal agent is helpful to Pradaxa patients, it was not available for the first five years Pradaxa was available in the United States. Even though these complications could be potentially fatal for patients, Boehringer Ingelheim allegedly failed to disclose this information on the drug’s warning label.

If you or someone you love suffered bleeding injury from Pradaxa, you may be eligible to file a Pradaxa lawsuit. Find the right Pradaxa lawsuit attorney to help you decide if a lawsuit is right for you.

In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
