side effects of diabetes medicationsKombiglyze, an increasingly popular diabetes drug, has been linked to life-threatening side effects reportedly including heart failure, thyroid cancer, and pancreatitis.

The medication, made up of saxagliptin and metformin hydrochloride, belongs to a relatively new class of diabetes drugs known as incretin mimetics. Kombiglyze and other incretin mimetic medications are used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise to control type-2 diabetes.

Kombiglyze works in two distinct manners to regulate high blood sugar levels in patients. The saxagliptin part of the drug stimulates insulin production, while the metformin decreases sugar production.

Side effects of diabetes medications can be quite serious, and the federal Food and Drug Administration tracks reports of complications. Although incretin mimetics are a relatively new class of diabetes drugs, reports of side effects are already filing in.

Side Effects of Diabetes Medications

Kombiglyze and other similar drugs have been linked with the following serious side effects:

  • Heart failure
  • Thyroid Cancer
  • Pancreatitis
  • Acute Pancreatitis
  • Hemorrhagic Pancreatitis
  • Necrotizing Pancreatitis
  • Kidney Complications
  • Renal Failure

Heart failure is arguably one of the more serious and dangerous side effects of diabetes medications such as Kombiglyze.

Heart failure is a potentially life-threatening medical condition in which the heart becomes so weak that it cannot adequately pump blood throughout the body. Heart failure must be treated immediately.

Even if a patient is lucky enough to survive heart failure, their life will never be the same. After experiencing heart failure, a patient must make significant changes to their daily routines in order to stay healthy.

These changes often include things like improving their diet, decreasing sodium intake, exercising, losing weight, and/or managing their stress levels more effectively. Patients who have experienced heart failure once must always be alert and do everything they can to reduce their risk of further complications.

Kombiglyze Lawsuits

A number of type-2 diabetes patients who have suffered from serious side effects of diabetes medications have responded by filing lawsuits. In these lawsuits, plaintiffs often allege that the drugs’ manufacturers, Bristol-Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca in the case of Kombiglyze, failed to adequately warn the public and the medical community of the potential risk of side effects of diabetes medications.

By failing to warn patients and doctors of these risks, the lawsuits claim, manufacturers placed consumers at an even greater risk.

On top of the increased risk of heart failure, Kombiglyze has also been connected to increased pancreatic and thyroid cancer risks. Injured patients have also filed Kombiglyze pancreatic cancer and Kombiglyze thyroid cancer lawsuits.

Lawsuits over severe medical conditions cannot heal a patient or bring a loved one back, but they can help with alleviating medical expenses.

If you or someone you love has suffered from side effects of diabetes medications like Kombiglyze, you may be able to file a Kombiglyze lawsuit.

In general, Onglyza lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
