Invokana Injuries LawsuitA Kentucky couple recently filed a lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, alleging severe Invokana injuries caused by the diabetes medication.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff, Gary B., began taking Invokana at the direction of his doctor in July 2015, continuing to take the drug through December 2015.

As a direct result of taking the diabetes drug, the lawsuit alleges Gary suffered from one of the possible severe Invokana injuries:  a stroke.

This lawsuit over severe Invokana injuries was filed on multiple counts, including manufacturing defect, defective design, failure to warn, negligence, breach of express and implied warranties, fraudulent misrepresentation and concealment, negligent misrepresentation, and fraud, as well as loss of consortium.

Invokana Background

Invokana (or canagliflozin, its generic name) was first introduced to the drug market in 2013 and is manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson.

Invokana is one of several major diabetes drugs known as sodium-glucose co-transporter 2, also known as SGLT2 inhibitors. SGLT2 inhibitor drugs make up a fairly new class of diabetes drugs, but have grown in popularity rapidly since their release.

One reason for the rise in popularity of diabetes drugs like Invokana is the aggressive marketing tactics employed by Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

According to this lawsuit, Janssen Pharmaceuticals actively minimized risks and overplayed the drug as safe and effective, despite known reports of severe Invokana injuries.

Since Invokana’s introduction to the market, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has received a growing number of adverse event reports regarding the drug, and has required Janssen to add a series of warnings to the Invokana warning label about severe Invokana injuries.

The warning urged users to be aware of diabetic ketoacidosis symptoms like abdominal pain, fatigue, nausea, respiratory problems, and vomiting.

Severe Invokana Injuries

Invokana has been linked with a number of serious side effects, from Invokana heart attack to kidney failure to diabetic ketoacidosis.

Invokana is associated with a number of side effects, including, but not limited to:

  • Dehydration (dizziness, lightheadedness)
  • Vaginal yeast infection
  • Yeast infection of the penis
  • Low blood sugar
  • Serious allergic reaction
  • Kidney problems, including kidney failure

Filing a Lawsuit over Severe Invokana Injuries

A growing number of injured consumers, amid the FDA warnings and recent studies, are pursuing Invokana lawsuits, alleging that Invokana causes severe injuries, including Invokana heart attack problems. These plaintiffs allege that the drug maker failed to adequately warn about potential Invokana risks.

These Invokana lawsuits claim that the drug makers actively withheld information about Invokana risks from both the medical community and the general public. Some of these Invokana lawsuits claim that the potential Invokana risks may outweigh its benefits.

If you or someone you love has suffered due to severe Invokana injuries like a stroke, you may be able to file a lawsuit.

While filing a lawsuit cannot reverse the side effects of Invokana, including severe Invokana injuries, pursuing an Invokana lawsuit could result in financial compensation that would help with medical expenses and lost wages.

The Invokana Injuries Lawsuit is Case No.3:16-cv-08978, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, Trenton Division.

In general, Invokana lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
