Propecia Sexual Side Effects Didn’t Go Away, Lawsuit Claims
By Andrea Gressman
Pharmaceutical company and manufacturer of Propecia, Merck, has had another Propecia lawsuit filed against them for alleged sexual dysfunction that resulted from the use of the drug finasteride (brand name Propecia). It is the plaintiff’s claim in the Propecia lawsuit that he was never informed of any of the potential sexual side effects linked to Propecia before he started using the product. The Propecia lawsuit filed on behalf of the plaintiff by his Propecia lawsuit attorney claims that he experienced both cognitive impairment as well as sexual dysfunction.
The Propecia side effects lawsuit was filed on October 2, 2012 in the U.S. District Court in New York’s Eastern District. The unnamed plaintiff contends he deserves compensation for pain and suffering, as well as economic loss because of the alleged harmful side effects of Propecia he endured. The Propecia lawsuit demands compensatory, punitive, special, general and exemplary damages and the amounts of these damages will be determined at trial unless a settlement is reached.
Propecia Side Effects Reportedly Do Not Go Away After Stopping the Drug
The plaintiff alleges the sexual dysfunction side effects began after he starting using Propecia in October of 2010 at the age of 20. The Propecia sexual side effects did not dissipate after he stopped taking the drug and he continues to experience them to this day. Several studies have examined this drug and have found the rate of Propecia sexual dysfunction can be as high as 39%. Of those afflicted, studies found that about half do not report the dissipation of Propecia sexual side effects after the drug use has ceased.
Both Merck and FDA Under Fire Due to Delayed Response in Informing Users of Propecia Side Effects
The FDA has come under fire at the same time as Merck in many of the Propecia lawsuits that have joined the Propecia lawsuit MDL. Both have been accused of not acting fast enough in the matter of warning consumers about Propecia side effects. In 2009, Sweden’s overseeing body, the Swedish Medical Products Agency, began issuing warnings of permanent sexual dysfunction as a result of using Propecia. Similar warnings were not issued in the U.S. until 2011. The plaintiff is alleging that due to the delay in action, he was unaware of these Propecia sexual side effects when he started taking the drug, even though these side effects were known.
In addition to sexual dysfunction, the plaintiff believes he suffered cognitive impairment due to Propecia. With the two Propecia side effects, he has claimed that he has suffered a noted drop in quality of life as well as needing treatment for depression and emotional distress. The Propecia lawsuit was filed in multidistrict litigation in New York.

I hope everyone that has had issues with Propecia report it to the FDA so they can start documenting cases. I contacted them and basically said in my email. “I wish they would take a closer look at Propecia, because it had ruined my life…..and if they wanted to hear my story I’d email it to them.” They sent a very nice and understand email back and wanted to hear more…..I think more people should email them.
