Pradaxa Lawsuit Argues for Drug Recall
By John Curran
Mary Weeks wants a legal remedy from manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim and also a recall of the blood-thinning drug that she took, according to a claim she filed with the help of her Pradaxa lawsuit lawyer.
At issue in the Pradaxa lawsuit is the fact that the manufacturer has not adequately warned patients of the risk of Pradaxa internal bleeding side effects. The fact that there is no antidote to Pradaxa bleeding has been glossed over by the FDA and warnings about it are only available deep in small print on the drug’s warning notices. Her case has joined the multidistrict litigation against Boehringer Ingelheim, which is rare in the sense that the drug has been on the market for just two years.
Ms. Weeks filed her Pradaxa lawsuit on November 8, 2012, and while it is unknown what injuries she suffered, Pradaxa internal bleeding side effects are some of the more common claims in Pradaxa lawsuits, which can occur in the brain or throughout the torso. More than 500 deaths have been attributed to Pradaxa internal bleeding events during its short time on the market, and thousands more have suffered like Ms. Weeks.
She argues that in addition to the Pradaxa recall, Boehringer Ingelheim should have been more upfront with consumers about the fact that no antidote to Pradaxa internal bleeding currently exists. While of a different class, this is actually true of most anticoagulants released recently. On the other hand, generic warfarin requires a simple dose of Vitamin K, or potassium, to reverse internal bleeding should it occur. There is no prospect for a similar antidote for Pradaxa hemorrhage side effects for the next year or two at a bare minimum.
Unfortunately, while Pradaxa is dangerous and deadly in many cases, it is unlikely that the FDA or Boehringer Ingelheim would call for a Pradaxa recall. The FDA clearly does not see a problem with patients who are bleeding out or dying from Pradaxa hemorrhage side effects, continuing to ignore these risks in studies it publishes about the blood thinner. Boehringer Ingelheim has even less of a desire: Pradaxa side effects do not matter nearly as much as the fact that it won’t go generic for another decade, meaning years of gaudy profits.
That is of little solace to those who did not know of these risks and suffered the consequences. There is help available at the Pradaxa Internal Bleeding Class Action Lawsuit Investigation. Filling out the short form there entitles one to a free consultation with a Pradaxa lawsuit lawyer. Things are moving quickly so people who have suffered as a result of this drug should act quickly. Determining one’s eligibility to pursue a claim because of Pradaxa side effects is just a click away.
