Online Forums Reveal Women Don’t Know Mirena IUD Facts

By John Curran

Mirena IUDWhile a recent study highlighted problems women had in understanding the relative benefits of intrauterine devices linked to Mirena IUD side effects, they are not the only concerns. Women across a number of Internet forums have questions that should be easily addressed by gynecologists, but still confuse these contraceptive users.

For example, few are worrying about Mirena IUD infertility side effects within days of removing the device. However, these women are not clear about when they will be able to conceive again. A gynecologist might advise them that it differs from woman to woman, but it is clear that users are trying to crowdsource their knowledge.

In addition, many IUD users complain of pain during sex or even during normal activities, again venturing to the Internet to find out whether or not this is normal. Notably, if a user was on the product’s own website, they would be able to find out that the Mirena IUD can migrate and cause uterine perforation, though it is unclear whether or not users do so.

More family planning outlets like Planned Parenthood are coming out in favor of the use of long-term contraceptives like intrauterine devices because they say that many women do not understand the benefits of these options. However, it would seem that they should also be taking steps to inform patients of the risks involved, including potential Mirena IUD side effects like device migration and uterine perforation, as existing users seem not to be aware of them.

This is an important issue because while the contraceptive devices are more effective over the long-term, research indicates that side effects occur much more often than those with oral birth control pills. If women are unaware of Mirena IUD infertility side effects, this puts them at more risk for problems over the years if they eventually do want to have children regardless of the exhortations of Planned Parenthood and others.

Unfortunately, both anecdotal research and scientific data indicate that awareness is an issue. Still, women who have dealt with these conditions do have legal remedies if they feel they were unaware of the risks. In that case, a free consultation with a Mirena IUD lawsuit attorney could make sense. Get one at the Mirena IUD Injury Class Action Lawsuit Settlement Investigation.
