New Study Suggests Yaz/Yasmin May Cause Heart Problems
By John Curran
Many of the women who filed lawsuits in the multidistrict litigation involving Yasmin side effects did so because they experienced injuries caused by Yasmin blood clots. Now, a study has linked the now-generic oral contraceptives to a new condition that women should worry about when considering birth control options.
As with the blood clots and other Yaz side effects, research published in the Annals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology indicates that Yasmin and Yaz may cause problems with heart arrhythmia and that these side effects are not found in earlier generations of contraceptives. That makes the prolonged corrected QT intervals a concern. In plain English, it means that Yasmin and Yaz may cause the heart’s electrical impulses to become out of rhythm, and can lead to racing heartbeats and other issues.
It is a similar condition to those who have taken the antibiotic Zithromax and experienced heart arrhythmia side effects. However, in those cases, the FDA cited research indicating that it only affected those who already had a history of heart problems. Due to the initial progress of the study found in the Annals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology, it is unclear whether or not the Yasmin heart side effects are also limited to a single group of women already at risk for these issues.
Still, it is something that women and their gynecologists may wish to discuss. Previously, the FDA and others warned potential patients that those who are older and those who smoke should consider all birth control options. These new Yaz side effects indicate that there could be other conditions in play, although the research is admittedly preliminary on Yasmin heart arrhythmia side effects.
The major concern for most women who are considering birth control pills remains Yasmin blood clot side effects, however. They can lead to pulmonary embolisms, deep vein thrombosis, strokes and related issues that have significantly reduced the quality of life for many, netting settlements that average more than $200,000 from drug maker Bayer Pharmaceutical.
Any users of these birth control pills who have dealt with similar side effects may wish to consult with a Yasmin lawsuit attorney. A free review is available when one fills out the short form at the Yaz/Yasmin, Beyaz & Ocella Birth Control Pill Class Action Lawsuit Settlement & Investigation. The majority of these lawsuits are being settled by Bayer Pharmaceuticals rather than face costly trials that could result in larger payouts. That means that a legal remedy could be possible relatively quickly for women who get started working with a Yasmin lawsuit attorney as soon as possible.
