A Florida resident recently filed a lawsuit against Daiichi Sankyo, alleging he suffered from serious Benicar HCT side effects.
The plaintiff, James M., began taking Benicar HCT at the direction of his doctor in December 2012. However, after he began taking this medication, he allegedly suffered from a number of Benicar HCT side effects, including villous atrophy and/or intestinal malabsorption, chronic diarrhea, rapid and severe weight loss, malnutrition, nausea and dehydration, the lawsuit claims.
On top of these physical Benicar HCT side effects, James has also suffered from hospital expenses and lost wages.
This Benicar HCT side effects lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including gross negligence, fraudulent concealment, breach of express and implied warranties, and several others.
Background of Benicar
Benicar HCT (also known by its generic name, olmesartan medoxomil) is a popular drug used to treat hypertension, and is manufactured by Daiichi Sankyo. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Benicar for the treatment of hypertension back in 2002. Since its release onto the market, Benicar has steadily risen in popularity.
Even though Benicar is one of the more widely used hypertension drugs available on the market, it has actually been linked with several serious Benicar HCT side effects. A growing number of Benicar HCT users are coming forward with their own complications.
Lawsuits over Benicar HCT side effects allege that Daiichi Sankyo failed to adequately warn consumers and the medical community about the drug’s risks.
Benicar HCT Side Effects
After its approval of Benicar HCT over a decade before, the FDA issued a Drug Safety Communication warning the public about the possibility of serious Benicar HCT side effects in July 2013. Olmesartan medoxomil is also marketed as Benicar and is an ingredient in Azor and Tribenzor.
These drugs have been linked with a number of Benicar HCT side effects, including sprue-like enteropathy, which causes chronic diarrhea, weight gain and other gastrointestinal issues.
The FDA also approved changes to the labels of these drugs which would include warnings about these Benicar HCT side effects.
Olmesartan medoxomil drugs like Benicar have been extremely popular and are widely distributed, which means that millions of people across the United States are at risk of suffering from Benicar HCT side effects like these.
