Benicar Abdominal PainAfter suffering from severe abdominal pain from Benicar, an Illinois woman decided to file a Benicar lawsuit against the drug’s manufacturer, Daiichi Sankyo, Inc.

This is only one lawsuit in the recent surge in Benicar lawsuits as litigation grows against the pharmaceutical company.

According to the Benicar lawsuit, the plaintiff, Jean W., began taking Benicar at the direction of her doctor in 2012.

However, after starting Benicar, the plaintiff suffered from a number of serious side effects, including abdominal pain from Benicar.

Other complications the plaintiff experienced because of Benicar, the lawsuit claims, include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, psychological damage, economic loss, impairment and emotional distress.

The lawsuit also alleges that the plaintiff suffered from medical expenses, lost earning capacity and loss of enjoyment of life due to Benicar.

The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including design defect, failure to warn, negligence, fraud, breach of express and implied warranties and violation of consumer protection law of the state of Illinois, among several others.

Benicar Basics

Benicar (commonly referred to as olmesartan medoxomil) is a popular and widely distributed hypertension drug manufactured by Daiichi Sankyo, Inc.

Benicar was approved for the treatment of hypertension by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002.

There are just a few olmesartan drugs available on the drug market, including Benicar, Benicar HCT, Azor and Tribenzor.

After their introduction to the market, the popularity of olmesartan drugs skyrocketed.

Indeed, by 2012, only 10 years after the drugs’ approval, nearly 2 million people in the United States were filling prescriptions for olmesartan drugs each year.

Side Effects Include Abdominal Pain from Benicar

All medications come with side effects, and the majority of these are mild. However, some drugs are linked with more serious and even dangerous side effects.

Despite its popularity, Benicar has been increasingly linked to a number of serious side effects in studies, complaints and lawsuits. For some patients, Benicar side effects are mild and go away without further treatment.

For others, however, side effects can be painful, permanent and affect their lives irreparably. For instance, some Benicar users have reported suffering from kidney damage or failure after using Benicar.

In response to the growing discussion of the dangers of Benicar, the FDA issued a drug warning on July 3, 2013, noting the link between Benicar and a variety of gastrointestinal injuries.

The FDA also approved a warning label that would have an updated list of side effects, including these gastrointestinal injuries.

Benicar Lawsuits

Benicar lawsuits like this claim that Daiichi Sankyo either knew or should have known that Benicar causes major side effects in some users, like abdominal pain from Benicar or even as dangerous as kidney failure.

However, the pharmaceutical company failed to adequately warn both the public and the medical community about the link between Benicar and these injuries, lawsuits claim.

Plaintiffs allege that, had Daiichi Sankyo given adequate warning of Benicar’s side effects, they would have chosen a safer alternative to Benicar.

Though filing a Benicar lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering experienced by some Benicar users because of these side effects, it can help to compensate for financial expenses that may have been incurred by problems such as abdominal pain from Benicar.

If you or someone you love has taken Benicar or a similar olmesartan drug and since suffered from anything from abdominal pain from Benicar to kidney failure, you may be able to file a Benicar lawsuit.

The Benicar Abdominal Pain Lawsuit is filed in MDL No. 2606, in the U.S. District Court for the Camden Vicinage of the District of New Jersey.
