Dozens of plaintiffs have joined a Pradaxa bleeding lawsuit against Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, alleging that the drug caused serious injury and even death.
Indeed, at least fifteen of the plaintiffs involved in the Pradaxa bleeding lawsuit filed as representatives on behalf of a deceased Pradaxa patient.
One of the plaintiffs in the Pradaxa bleeding lawsuit, Keith L., is a Missouri resident, and alleges that he suffered from bleeding injuries as a direct result of using Pradaxa.
The Pradaxa bleeding lawsuit alleges that Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals either knew or should have known that Pradaxa was linked with serious bleeding problems, yet failed to adequately warn the public and the medical community about these risks.
After using Pradaxa at the direction of their respective doctors, plaintiffs have suffered from medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish and wrongful death.
These plaintiffs filed their Pradaxa bleeding lawsuit on multiple counts, including failure to warn, design defect, negligence, breach of express and implied warranties, misrepresentation and wrongful death, among several others.
Pradaxa Background
The blood thinner Pradaxa (also known as dabigatran) was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in 2010. Pradaxa is one of several blood thinners that have been introduced as replacements for the traditional anticoagulant, warfarin.
Since its release onto the market in 2010, Pradaxa has grown increasingly popular across the country, and millions of anticoagulant users have switched to Pradaxa.
However, despite its popularity, the blood thinner has been linked with a number of dangerous or even fatal bleeding complications.
Pradaxa Internal Bleeding
It is not uncommon for blood thinning drugs to have serious bleeding side effects. This is because blood thinners are generally used to prevent blood clotting.
In most cases, blood clots are dangerous and can cause serious problems if they move to the heart or lungs, which is why many take blood thinners in the first place.
However, there are some circumstances in which blood clots can save lives, but patients on blood thinners are unable to form these blood clots.
Many blood thinners have antidotes that reverse the blood thinning effects of these drugs, allowing blood to clot and stop a patient from bleeding too excessively after an accident or during an emergency surgery.
However, some anticoagulants, including Pradaxa, do not have a reversal drug, meaning that there is no antidote available to reverse the drug’s blood thinning effects. This can lead to injuries and fatalities that could otherwise have been avoided.
Pradaxa Bleeding Lawsuits
This Pradaxa bleeding lawsuit and others like it, now numbering in the thousands, allege that Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals had a duty to warn users of the unusual risks linked with their drug.
A growing number of Pradaxa users are filing complaints and lawsuits over internal bleeding complications. In the last year alone, thousands of individual plaintiffs have filed such lawsuits.
Filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of internal bleeding side effects or bring a loved one back to life, but it can help to compensate for financial expenses incurred by medical bills and lost wages.
If you or someone you love has taken Pradaxa and experienced internal bleeding side effects, you may be able to file a Pradaxa bleeding lawsuit.
The Pradaxa Bleeding Lawsuit is Case No. 1622-CC09703, in the Missouri Circuit Court for the Twenty-Second Judicial Circuit of the City of St. Louis.
In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
