stethoscope on white backgroundA growing number of consumers are reporting concerns over the possibility of Onglyza heart disease. Onglyza heart disease patients say that they were not properly warned about the possibility of developing heart problems when they began taking Onglyza as directed by their doctor.

Patients with a diagnosis of type-2 diabetes rely on their medications for the management of this condition. Although every drug has the possibility to cause side effects in the patient, users of Onglyza say that heart disease possibilities were not explained on the warning label.

More information completed through studies and individual patient reports shows that Onglyza could cause damaging heart disease and other heart-related side effects when the patient is taking their drug as directed.

Onglyza is a type-2 diabetes medication manufactured by AstraZeneca. Although some patients have effectively treated their disease with this drug, others have developed heart problems including a possible risk of Onglyza heart disease.

A diagnosis of heart disease can raise its own problems for a patient, including new medications taken to manage that condition.

Onglyza has been shown in studies to increase the risk of possibly fatal complications and certain cardiovascular events. Onglyza was originally approved by the FDA in 2009 and assists patients by controlling their blood sugar levels.

A 2013 study, however, showed the possible connection between Onglyza and heart disease. The sister medication for Onglyza, Kombiglyze, was named in a safety alert by the FDA and some safety advocates are calling for the drug to be removed from the U.S. market. The 2013 study indicated that medications like Onglyza could have a higher than normal risk of hospitalization for heart disease.

Some other side effects, in addition to the possibility of Onglyza heart disease, can include an allergic reaction, joint pain, high blood sugar levels, and low blood sugar levels.

A 2015 decision by a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel recommended AstraZeneca to add a heart disease warning label to the medication due to the higher risk of potential heart failure. The updated label came about as a result of the SAVOR study. Of the total 16,000 subjects in the SAVOR study, more than 1,200 reported a major cardiovascular event while using the medication.

Any of the following heart health symptoms should be taken seriously by a patient and reported to a physician immediately: irregular heart rate, swelling of the feet, hands or ankles, persistent cough, wheezing, difficulty breathing, and fatigue.

Many Onglyza lawsuits have already been filed by patients who have developed a condition or received a medical diagnosis after taking the drug.

Some of these lawsuits have similar allegations against the manufacturer, including claims of marketing the drug despite awareness of danger, inappropriate marketing of the drug, failure to warn the public and medical community about potential dangers such as heart disease, and the general manufacturing of a dangerous medication.

What Are the Signs of Heart Disease?

There are several medical conditions that can damage your heart and fall under the umbrella of the condition known as heart disease. For example, conditions that meet this definition include heart defects, heart rhythm issues, coronary artery disease, or blood vessel diseases.

Symptoms of heart disease include shortness of breath, chest pain and tightness, chest pressure, pain throughout the back, jaw, and neck, numbness in the legs and arms, dizziness, lightheadedness, tiring easily after activity, and fainting.

There are many risk factors that can influence a person’s chances of getting heart disease. Some of these include family history, smoking, poor diet, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and stress. In some situations, such as with patients taking Onglyza, the use of a particular medicine increases the chances of developing heart disease.

Some of the biggest dangers of a heart disease diagnosis have to do with complications. These complications can include heart failure, sudden cardiac arrest, stroke, aneurysm, and peripheral artery disease.

While maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle are important steps for anyone looking to prevent heart disease, it can come as a shock to someone taking medications that the side effects are much more serious than expected.

Drug manufacturers have a responsibility to test their products and determine potential risks and side effects so that patients can make an informed decision. Given that heart disease is such a serious issue with many known complications and even fatal risks, the use of Onglyza or medications with a similar risk profile should be discussed carefully with a doctor.
