nurse noting Onglyza heart failureA new allegation of Onglyza heart failure has been added to the multidistrict litigation filed against Bristol-Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. The plaintiffs in this most recent Onglyza heart failure lawsuit are Billy and Merryann H.

Their Onglyza heart failure lawsuit says that the defendants in this lawsuit sell their saxagliptin drug under the brand names Kombiglyze XR and Onglyza. These medications are given to patients to help reduce blood sugar levels for those individuals diagnosed with type-2 diabetes.

The use of saxagliptin, however, has been tied to Onglyza heart failure, cardiac failure, congestive heart failure, death from heart failure and other critical health conditions.

Billy says he has brought the Onglyza heart failure lawsuit as a result of the personal injuries he sustained due to being prescribed and ingesting what he says is an unreasonably dangerous and defective drug. The second plaintiff, Merryann H., is Billy’s spouse, and she brings a claim for loss of consortium.

Onglyza Complaint

Billy says he received a prescription for Onglyza which he took from Dec. 21, 2010 through Jan. 29, 2018. He says in his Onglyza heart failure lawsuit that at that point in time he sustained permanent and severe injuries.

Any type of heart failure is serious, especially if the patient is not able to get to a hospital immediately. Heart failure can become fatal in a matter of minutes in some situations.

The plaintiff says he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure on Jan. 25, 2018. Both he and his wife say that if they knew about the significant risks of saxagliptin and Onglyza heart failure, they would have reevaluated their decision to use the drug as the treatment for Billy’s other medical conditions.

The plaintiffs in this Onglyza heart failure lawsuit allege that the manufacturers of this drug have failed to disclose the risks appropriately and have caused significant injuries including mental anguish, severe pain and suffering, bodily and mental injuries, inconvenience, loss of earnings and earning capacity, and disfigurement.

Onglyza Warning Label

The Onglyza heart failure lawsuit says that the defendants purposely and deliberately failed to warn consumers, plaintiffs, patients, medical providers, and the public about the increased risk of severe injury, including Onglyza heart failure.

The plaintiff alleges that were he and his doctors aware of the dangers of Onglyza heart failure, the prescription likely would never have been given to him in the first place. He argues that since he has sustained severe and life changing injuries, the defendants should be held accountable.

Any patient who starts taking a new drug deserves to be aware of the risks of doing so. But increasingly, patients are reporting that the material included with Onglyza does not accurately represent the risks of heart failure associated with this drug. An FDA panel has recommended updating the label for saxagliptin drugs to better reflect this risk.

Some patients say that due to this lack of proper disclosure by the manufacturer they have faced life-threatening heart complications about which they should have been warned.

The Onglyza Heart Failure Lawsuit is Case No. 5:18-cv-00596-KKC, filed in U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Kentucky.
